This is Nightmare in the Dark

I'm pretty sure it's a boot because of the dreaded MX chips, right? I haven't got a chance to put it in a system yet since my system hasn't come yet. Anything I should watch out for in general? (WARNING: the pics are 2MB large each. )

Where did you get it from? Neweravideogames? It was obviously a boot.

If you got it for less than $80 then its defenitely a boot.

it was just some ebay game. I bought it a few weeks back before I even knew there were bootleg games. Oh well, how sad.

Okay. I can’t make a new topic so I’m going to hijack this one.

I recently bought KoF ’96. I believe it’s boot but since I’m a newcomer to the scene I’m not really sure. Please, have a look and be the judge.

In time you can create new threads.

Patience is a virtue.

New members cannot grasp this concept.

And your game is a bootleg.

Actually, it may be legit. Those 4 colored EProms were a fix by SNK on a few carts I believe. I couldn't comment on the EP on the second board though. Maybe some closer pictures are in order?

Indeed. I had a Samurai 3 that had the 4 EP fix. That 96 looks legit to me anyway. Just check the numbers on the solid roms with the game number on the master list. If they match, it's just a fix.

The markings on the Toshiba chips match to the NGH number.

Here’s the text on the EP that has the white marking on it (54 I believe):
M27CI001
-12FI
V88BD
[ST logo] 9322BS
SINGAPORE

Thanks for the help so far!

Who was the manufacturer of that last chip? Sounds a bit suspicous, but there are some strange variations with MVS carts.

There's only the ST logo and nothing else that suggests a company name.

Toshiba chips with the correct NGH number always indicate that at least part of what you have is legit. If everyone knew that, there would be a lot less posts in this forum.
