few questions about Magical Drop III

Hi,
I just get it on MVS and I have a few questions about the 2 players game:
1- Sometimes one player reach the zero on the counter and it says Loose on both side!! Do you know why??
2- When playing two players, is there a difference with the guy you choose (justice, death...) or is it fair??

regarding the players you choose, there is a difference in power levels.

Tower and Fortune are the two strongest playble characters in the game (unless you have the non-MVS/homecart, in which case it's Black Pierrot). The fool is the weakest. The strength of the character determines the drop down rate of the balls for you or your enemy.
