I saw somebody do this combo with Athena a long time ago ( when KOF '98 was new ):

Her hcf+p grab into her air qcb+k ( phoenix arrow ).

I'm trying to do it , but somehow can't get the phoenix arrow out quick enough.

WTF???

You must be the slowest KOF '98 player in existence not to be able to pull that kindergarden combo off. Very sad.

Hope you never enter a tournament fella, you'd be decimated in rather quick fashion.

There's much more advanced combos in the game than that weak shit.

Thanks for your help. It's much appreciated. It would be good for these forums to have more helpful people like you...

I don't go for combos in actual versus play.
I'm more of a counter player ( opp. makes a mistake I capitalize ). Plus I don't play with Athena all that much, and I haven't played a game of KOF in a serious competition since KOF '97 came out...

Once again, thanks for your help.

Look dude, it's not worth posting for help on such a basic combo such as this. There's really nothing I can tell you (or anyone else for that matter) other than to be faster.

Maybe it's because I've been playing KOF since '94, that I have the required speed and timing for it.

It's a two step combo right? Air throw and pheonix arrow, right? Therfore it's very basic as far as the '98 combo scheme go's.

I pull off five hitters with Saishu that make your combo look pretty Sesame Street.

Here's my help for you, get faster! You're way too slow if you can't pull that off.

Five whopping hits with Saisyu? I don't think I'll ever be fast enough for that. I guess I'll have to stick with my measly 6 hitter. ;) Or 5 hitter all ground...
Saisyu is easy to combo with - all ground comboes with maybe a jump in. All in the same close strong attack -> towards weak attack -> special move variety. Almost same timing for ALL the characters.

If you're that good then, how can you have such a hard time on such a simple two stepper? Okay, maybe three.... Air grab, jump, phoenix arrow. On step two of the combo, try jumping in a bit to increase connect percentage for step three.

I'm actually pretty combo wicked myself in this game, it's truly a 2D classic.

Your situation baffles me still. I'm guessing you can't pull off the air grab, jump, then crystal shield DM or SDM combo either (also very elementary).

Get that speed up.

Actually I don't have any problem with the DM or SDM at all. It's like there's no timing involved in that at all. And no problem with any other moves after air grab either ( psycho sword or the reflector or simply jumping after it and using strong kick ).

Anyway, first I tried to use a shortcut - down, downaway, back, upaway + kick. Then I was trying to use the weak kick version while jumping in, because it looked like it comes out faster - looks like that doesn't connect at all. I got it to connect with the strong kick one, but only two hits of the arrow actually go in...Is that all that can hit?

Actually, with the air grab phoenix arrow combo, I can get four to five hits with the D version of the phoenix, but the timing is extremely strict.

You and your opponent must be even in the air to even pray for four hits let alone five. You can also be slightly over them (very, very slighty) to pull off four or five hits too.

I've never tried the B version of the phoenix while hitting air combos with her.

Also you can jump a very short and low distance, pull off a Phoenix Arrow, and score at least three hits. I totally forgot about this shortcut for some reason.

If all else fails, try hitting them in the air, then quickly morph to the Phoenix Arrow as soon as the hit lands.

Hey, yeah! If I execute the phoenix arrow the moment she leaves the ground, I will get 2-3 hits every time!

4-5 hits, really? Guess I'll have to start practicing the timing for this...and to combo from an air hit ( haven't even thought about doing that ).

Thanks Body Rip.
