Fun times, indeed. We had to jump through a little hoops to play together, though. For your information, folks, the demo separated playing with folks on your friends list from everybody else; and then they disabled the ability to simply set up a friends-list specific game from the demo. (eg. the option is there but ghosted out). So we had to do a little temporary friends-list removal to get a session going before we resynched our friends-list afterwards. Still, it was a little tricky to connect, in that manner. We did it though and got some Co-op in.
My impressions are that the game mixes a bit of what Narc 3D should've been. (The idea that you're fighting bad guys, jumping into cars, and possibly using way-over-the-top ordinance to take down criminals. (Sometimes leading to big destruction and explosions galore)), and a Super Hero game. One moment, you're Narc, the next, something out of City of Heroes.
I guess the environment is befitting of something out of Robocop, in a way. That's what you feel like in comparison to the rest of the police force. I think I mentioned to Magician that this game is missing some announcer or tv show with a guy saying, "I'll buy THAT for a dollar!!!" (Though that line was already pinched in Midway's Smash TV)
True, it is a free roaming game, but sort of one with a purpose. The game itself is sort of to a Super Hero 3D version of Narc as the New Castlevanias are to the old ones. You do a lot of similar fun things, but the linear progression removed in favor of a map system.
As you gain powers, things get more interesting though, as you start to leap tall buildings in a single bound, etc. I haven't gotten to the strength level of picking up and tossing cars though. Agility, on the other hand, is found all over the place, so getting some good speed and jumping ability is easy to attain. Sometimes the fun is figuring out how to use your powers to get to certain *hard to reach* areas.
Targetting is well done, and allows you to *call shots* with it fairly early in the game. However, take note, the better your called shot (with the lock on system), the lower the percentage (compared to your gun skill) of chance to hit it with your guns. So just because you lock-on targetting the head. Many of times, that would be the slow way to go at it because you'll miss a lot more than just targetting the large torso area. Of course, using the zoom feature instead, with no auto-aim, will hit precisely what you're aiming at.
