Shovel ware maybe, but I haven't played either, so will be keeping an eye on how these turn out.

Square Enix announced Final Fantasy Anniversary Edition and Final Fantasy II Anniversary Edition for PSP, as the first games in the Final Fantasy 20th Anniversary series. Both games will be contain all the new elements in Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls for GBA, plus further enhancements in the graphics and music, as well as new CG movies and some innovations on the levels and contents.

This would be the what, the 4th port/remake of FFI&II and there's yet to be a single one for FFVII? SquareEnix needs to get their f**king priorties straight.

The graphic updates for these games (which are listed seperately in the magazine article, makes me wonder) are very minimum. They look like the GBA Dawn of Souls game, only a bit higher resolution so that they don't look like total crap on the PSP screen. I think the spell effects are a bit more tweaked and fancy, but other than that, it's the same damn game. They could have at least contracted them out and had them redone in 3D like with FFIII on DS.

Yea, this is a bit excessive. I don't think it'll sell that well for PSP either given that's already out for the GBA. As for the FF7 bit, I'm sure it takes a small fraction of the time to remake FF1&2 as it would FF7 especially given that they were already remade years ago.

You're right; enough with the spinoff crap. Just remake the game already.

Do you have any links to screenshots?

Surely these versions would have to be significantly improved over the GBA versions to justify their existence...

If not, I guess I will just dig out my GBA Micro.

Square-Enix needs to get off its ass and do FFVII on DS. I know it can be done.

Fuck having a 4th version of FF1.

If only this were Dragon Quest.....

I'd cream myself. Squeenix has me worked up into a Dragon Quest frenzy.

Dawn of Souls was good, but WAY TOO EASY. You can just walk through the bosses with no leveling up. If they bring back the challenge (like FFIII) and the risk of dying I'll pick it up in a heartbeat.

FFI the remake is a beautiful game that is perfect on the go. Nothing is cooler than the old school Final Fantasy baddies and magic. I love the long dungeons too. Probably will pick this up no matter what...

Either FFVII for the DS or for the PSP would be good. :)

No, not the PSP. I'm not buying another one. It needs to come out on the DS. :D

Why would they have to be significantly improved? The PSP has almost next to nothing in terms of big name titles in its software line up. It's an easy way to try to cash in on it.

There is an interview with three long-time Square Enix employees in this week's Famitsu.

They confirm that these games will be based on the system in the PS versions, and that all the graphics are being completely redone.

I rushed the scan, but PSP on the left, and GBA on the right.

I think famitsu website has clear screenshots. The game is definantly 100% redone art. It looks much better but still no ff6 in terms of art style.

Also I though it was mention that the game has all the audio/video of the ps1 version but contains all the new content of the gba games (ie extra dungons).

This is quite a good English source too:

If they were selling them together in a package like with Dawn of Souls, it might not be as bad. But selling them seperate and having so little upgraded (it looks like an early PSOne title at best) it just isn't worth it. I already have Dawn of Souls on GBA and the upgrades found in these versions don't give me much incentive to pick them up, especailly since they are going to retail seperately.

If Capcom, Konami and Sega can do game collections on PSP, why can't Squaresoft?

This is ridiculous to release one Final Fantasy game on PSP..........that's bullshit
