Alright.

Im replacing the fan in my XB with a new 80mm pc fan.

Got my box all opened up, old fans out, ripped out the tabs that held in the stock fan, new fans ready to go in.

Now.

Is there ANY way to get this fan into this thing without filing down the corners on it? I dont have a file or a dremel at the moment, so, just trying to find another way to do this.

If its plastic you can use an exacto knife and trim.

It is, but its really thick plastic.

I tried a little with my knife, but its just not going to work that way without me cutting myself.

Maybe I could melt it off or something.

That what I used to trim a fan before but now I use a dremel. You can always snip it with wire cutters, takes time and patience though.

Using a knife is not a good way to cut the plastic. Use wirecutters since you don't have a dremel.

You'll probably have to cut a little bit of the hard drive tray as well.

If you use a knife, you'll end up frustrated and bleeding.

It's a gangster way of doing it, but it works better than a knife for sure ;).

A dremel will definitely make it a lot easier.

Yeah, its not like I didnt need a wire cutter. I got a pack for like 6 bucks that had a wire cutter and a pair of needle nose pliars.

They have a dremel set for about 80 bucks at Sears with all the bits and stuff.

A dremel is a necessary investment if you plan on doing more casemods in the future.

Got it and made my room smell like burnt plastic.

Need to go get some bits for cutting plastic if I do anything like this again.

Even cutting it will make your room smell that way. Ahhh the joys of case mods.
