Hey Folks,

I got a question for everyone. I have a pretty decent sized collection of games...a ton of which I dont touch anymore. All I find myself ever playing is my psp, my ps2, and more so then any other..my neo.

I know alot of you guys out there are stickly into neo games and thats it.. my question is..how do you get rid of all the other stuff.

I have all the snk ports of all the neo games and I figured... gee I might as well sell them. But every time I go to list them I start looking at them and think about how cool they look on the shelf and I never end up listing them.

Maybe with some encouragement from you guys, I'll actually be able to part with some of these.

It is tough to get started, but once the money starts hitting your paypal account, you probably wont look back.

Go through your collection and sell anything you haven't played in 6 months. If you haven't played it in that long (or longer), you probably wont any time soon.

This is exactly right. The first few items you sell are the hardest.

Earlier last year I sold off about 75% of my stuff, but after the first few packages went out the door, the rest was cake.

I can't even begin to even think about selling my collection, even my dupes. I look for the costs of the stuff to go up as time goes on, so hopefully in 30 years I can get alot for them, or even pass them down to my kids for generations ahead to enjoy. I have about 1,000 games spread out between these systems

MAINTSTREAM:

Atari 2600(heavy six, regular six, 4 switch, JR versions)
Atari 5200
Atari 7800
Atari XE
Atari Lynx II
Atari Jaguar
Microsoft XBOX
Microsoft XBOX 360
Nintendo NES
Nintendo SNES
Nintendo N64(2x)
Nintendo Gamecube
Nintendo Gameboy(regular, color, pocket)
Nintendo Gameboy Advance
Nintendo DS
Nintendo Virtual Boy
Sega Master System
Sega Genesis( version 1 and 2)
Sega CDX
Sega GameGear (x2)
Sega Saturn
Sega Dreamcast
Sony PS1
Sony PS2
Sony PSP

OTHER SYSTEMS

Colecovision
Intellevision
Oddessy 2
Watara Supervision
WonderSwan 25th Gundam Anniversary Edition
Gamepark GP32
Neo Geo CD
Neo Geo Pocket
Texas Instruments TI/994a
Commodore Vic-20
N-gage QD
Game.com

I think that's all of them, if i remember more i'll edit the post. But i could never part with my collection. Been contemplating selling my dupes for 2 years now, just can't seem to do it.

just keep it man, your interest might be at a low now but put it in a box in the attic and pull it out in a year or so.. might get a new start :)

but yeah if you need the cash just roll it up on ebay, i saw some of the games you put up in the selling forum, nice stuff.

or do what i did, just weed out bad or not so rare games and sell em off.. just keep the gems :)

I'd say only sell the stuff if you really need the money. Unless you can't even stand the sight of the games on your shelf anymore, which isn't the issue here. Think of them as a kind of rainy day fund. Some stuff I've sold I've regretted, and some I haven't.

Everyone has their own philosophy about how many games is too much.

you can never have to many games :)
Quote for truth. However, there is one exception:

It is entirely possible to own too many console sports games.

nope, lol. My local save a lot last year was selling Sega Genesis sports games for $1. I snatched up each one, got madden 97, nhl 97, college football, nba live 97 and another hockey game, though I will never play them, they weren't in my collection and for $1, i wasn't passing them up regardless.

But your right in the sense you can have to many sports games that you play for 1 system, like for me, i had Madden 03 for PS2, no reason for me to buy another, and for the 360, i have 07, no reason for me to buy another. they're all the same regardless.

Forget these overgrown children. Sell your shit off. When you see the money roll in you'll fell a lot lighter. Freedom is so much better than mindless gay gaming.

If you really want to play some of those games, just get an xbox and run the roms. SNK is gone and so it won't hurt anyone to play the old roms on an EMU.

If you really need the money, I'd recommend dumping the stuff you don't use.

It all depends on how important it is to you, and it sounds like you might regret it if you sell.

Take wasabi's advice with a grain of salt. He's been on an anti-gaming tirade after some chick found his anime porn and ran out of his place screaming.

I kinda run with the six month rule, or some times I just buy games to test them out, I figure if I play it its worth it, and if I dont I should let someone else have the joy of owning it. This is especially true when it comes to arcade hardware, I cant tell exactly how much, ive traded, bought and or sold in just the past year.

Yeah..so I decided to sell some of the stuff. I basically sold the stuff that I already have on another system. I let go of my saturn import sbecause I have most of em for mvs, or neo CD. i went on this kick for awhile where I needed to have every port of the same game..So I ended up having like 6 versions of KoF 95. I kept my Dreamcast stuff in case I ever want to play it again, and of course my neo stuff, and my portables.

Im ok with what I kept..thanks for all the input folks

A real problem is that you do not really get a lot of money for most games. I have tons of games I really play, but selling them for something like 1-5$ a piece is just not worth the effort. And selling them bulk does not really help either. I just sold about 150 games on ebay, did not get the price I was looking for a single game and then had some major hassle with people complaining about games they bought for 2$ or giving wrong addresses, problems with Paypal and the like. So my recommendation is - sell the big stuff here or on ebay, ship only insured and put the other stuff in a box for the next flea market or garage sale.
I can understand your collectors urge, but eventually it is not that hard to part with stuff you either have in loads of different versions or on different platforms or you do not play any more anyway. Just showing off is not worth having all the stuff.

The place looks awsome! I guess it pays off to sell some of the collection, and perhaps filtering is a good solution when it comes to collecting games, but I can't do it, like some of the guys mentioned here is easy to get rid off the crap, but the gems is difficult, if I make a jump like that it means no shadow of the colossus.

I would like to just keep arcade titles, but the sacrifice is too big, no castlevania, no Mario, and the worst no Megaman. I just can't do it, but I will sell the clutter like syphon filter and legacy of kain series, and all them cheesy series of games.

Why!? Why do you have to open a can of worms like this?

you wanna sell it, sell it. you wanna keep it, keep it. sooner or later, you'll be a packrat like me and will have amassed this pile of worthless crap that youve never touched since you bought it and that nobody else wants and you'll be stuck with it. yeah, i have some gems (beta copy of Guilty Gear Isuka, Snatcher for sega CD... ;) ), but the worthless far outweighs the good stuff

with past ports to other systems like saturn and ps ports SNK always added
extras similar to the NEO cd offerings. most ports of SNK stuff is fun to collect i think
and worth holding onto.

Absolutely, it is other games that I'm reffering to, like PSX, Saturn, Dreamcast, the list goes on, but Neo I'll take to the grave.

I'm thinking of cleaning up myself, only keeping arcady titles, this way I can still play some capcrap, and some konami goodness, also namco has some goodies as well, but I need to get rid off the clutter like the "syphon filter series kind of crap"

I'm defenately also keeping key series, like Megaman, Castlevania, Contra, and so on.

That what i do the stuff i can get easily i sell while the rarer gems like space firebird Marquee will be with me forever. But at the moment, 90% of my consoles/games are going due to moving, but if i ever wanted the stuff i can still get them back, so its not that important.

Keep them!

I really regret selling off all my NES, SNES, and Genesis games. I've even re-bought a lot of them and then sold them again.

I learned my lesson and now I don't sell anything anymore.

Hang on to them for now, especially if you don't absolutely need the money.

Here's an addendum to that thread. By the end of Dec 2006 I had sold basically everything I owned. I kinda quit games cold turkey.

If there were games being played I could still play for 15 minutes or so, but it didn't last long. I'd still drop a quarter in a Galaga cab if I was waiting for a movie, but for the most part is was an afterthought instead of my primary focus.

And to the people unwilling to sell off hard to get stuff, screw it, if you aren't playing it, sell it. I had English matching serial # kits of all six Metal Slugs, Last Blade 1 and 2, and several others. Sold them all and haven't cared one bit. Sold my Neo cab.

Over a year later after no significant game playing I got interested in the Wii, kinda got lucky looked for about a half a day and found one. A few weeks later I've bought Metal Slug Anthology which replaces 750+ bucks worth of Neo Geo kits as well as whatever the Atomiswave software for Slug 6 would cost. I bought Elebits and it didn't instantly appeal to me so I returned it, which I never would have done two years ago. And I'm still playing Wii Sports in more than 90% of my Wii time.

If you truly are done with some stuff get rid of it. My mindset has changed completely and now when I see people say things like "You can never have too many games" I have to laugh. I saw that list you made and just though "Oh God, what a bunch of shit" My game playing is no longer sessions that last for hours upon hours, I'll play for a half hour and then move on to something else.

I'll stop rambling. I agree with wasabi, sell your shit, if you regret it that much way down the road buy it back or just get the rom.
