I'd like to know what a good game to start out with on my SNES would be. I'm sure I'll be dissapointed in comparison to the arcades but thats ok lemme know whats the best out there.

Yeah, the snes port of WH2 is fucking good. The Art of Fighting also has a good port, and if you get a chance to pickup the SFC version of AoF2, that's a killer port as well.

AOF was a great port for the SNES, as well as FF and FF Special and KOTM 2. For 16 bit ports, they don't get any better.

Not sure about SNES, but the Famicom/NES had that bad ass port of P.O.W. and it fookin' rocked like a barbarian taking a woman on a viking raiding party, heck in some ways surpassing the Arcade version. As far as SNES I'd vote for the port of "Art of Fighting" at least the Super Fami version where you could actually Haoh-Sho-Ko-Ken (Super Fireball) King's entire shirt off instead of just ripping up the first few buttons in the SNES version.

I think it would have to be King of the Monsters 2. Quiz Chibi is also on SFC, I'm sure that's pretty arcade perfect, it was a simple game.

I think the best conversion was Super 2020 Baseball. The other games you could see a big difference in game play and the way the game looked.

AOF was good. Sam Sho wasnt that bad either. WH2 was pretty good too. Takara and Sunsoft were the kings of SNES ports of SNK titles.

I'll agree that WH1 and WH2 weren't bad (actually I think I liked the port of WH2 better than the original!) but the SS just couldn't hold a candle to:
a) the original
b) Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, the reigning king of fighting games at the time

when i first joined here a guy was selling a aes deck with around 10 games on ebay, i asked him if he would send the items to the uk and after some email tennis i found out he was the lead programmer for Takara and he did all the games for the snes, all the neo stuff he had was given to him as a gift for his work by the guys at snk

probably worth some value since there is a story behind it :D

Whoa, that's pretty cool! I think you should've sent him a dirty email about Fatal Fury 2/Special though. Blech! make_fac

Thanks for all the help guys, I bought Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury, along with Saturday Night Slam Masters (it was a buy 2 get one free deal). So far AoF is more enjoyable need to unlock more characters.

Art of Fighting is a really good, fun port that holds faithful to the original and retains the feel of the game.

What are you talking about, Fatal Fury? Fatal Fury for SNES was the worst port of anything I've ever seen. The gameplay was slow and unrecognizable, and it's the only SNES game I've ever seen with a "NOW LOADING" screen. Talk about a ridiculous port.

You're right, Fatal Fury on the SNES was crap.
The only good ports on the SNES are AOF and World Heroes.
The other ports: Fatal Fury 2 , Fatal Fury Special are better on Genesis/Sega CD and Samurai Shodown you play also better on Genesis or Sega CD because the SNES Version has to small sprites.

I would go out on a limb to say that Street Fighter Alpha 2 is probably the worst port I've ever seen on the SNES.

SF Alpha 2 the only Module with CD loadtimes...LOL
just wait at the "Fight" Screen, the Screen appears and then you must wait a moment before you can fight the opponent.....*crazy*

Rugal: I don't remember, it's been a long time since I've played it. However, I will say certain tricks don't work in it. IE: If you throw a projectile right as somebody gets up, it will not dizzy them. It also has a "loose" feeling compared to the Neo. You know how the characters kinda move around slow and stiff in the original version? Well they aren't like that in the SFC version.

It's still fun though. The graphics look nice and the sound is semi-decent (it suffers from the tin-can sound effects you hear in the SFC version of Fatal Fury Special - way too much reverb). It sucks that there's no working rom of it (or at least one that I know of). I was able to score it from Laurent when he was in Japan for $50 shipped via EMS. I may try and get it again. It's a neat little collectible item you don't see pop up often.
