Alright, I am going to attempt my first consolize/supergun project and i have a few questions to ask the people who that done this before. I am going to use this guide for what i need to do.

http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/28/how-to-consolize-an-arcade-game/

Now this looks like a pretty simple guide to use, but since i am very new at moding/tech work i have a few questions.

1. Is this a good guide to use when using a MV-1F?

2. The diagram for the jamma pinout to me seems backwards (left: parts side/ right: solder side). Am I looking at it wrong? Would this diagram be the same for the mv-1f board this giude is using a MV-1A?

3. When connecting the power supply to the jamma do i just match all volts and ground, TOP AND BOTTOM? So all the pins on the power side are full?

4. Sound: according to HARD MVS, the mv-1f does not have stereo sound through the jamma. So which pin is mono sound so I can hook up to an RCA phono jack.

5. as far as controls go, my board has controller ports. The controller will work i just plug it in right?

OK, I think thats all the questions i have but i know i will have more.

THANKS

I have never used that guide personally, but Ben Heck is good at what he does and from the little bit I read of that tutorial, it should get you heading in the right direction. I also recommend using the search function on these forums to see how others have built their superguns. It is something that can be very personalized. There are also may people on here that are more experienced then I at building superguns, but I just thought I would throw in my 2 cents. To date I have only built 1 supergun and am working on number 2.

After looking at the manual for a MV-1F board, the sound coming directly from the jamma connector is only mono, there is a 4 pin male connector on the side of the board labeled "CN2" that is the stereo output for speakers.

Yes

Pin "L" is the negative speaker connection, and pin "10" is positive speaker connection. You might want to use an audio attenuation circuit to "de-amplify" the mono output so you don't blow your speakers over time. Use the search funtion to find out more.

Thanks Black Ice. Does the manual for the MV/1F have a better diagram for the jamma pin out? I am still a little confused on the pin out. OK, top is numbers and bottom is letters?

Check the diagram here. It's about as clear as they get. Remember that the MV-1F uses the JAMMA pinout. The MVS pinout on that diagram is for 2-6 slots boards.

If your board has ports, yes regular controllers will work without additional wiring. I suggest if this is your first project, you may want to wire power and your video converter up to this: http://www.happcontrols.com/powersupplies/49001100.htm

56 pin edge connector (you could get them cheaper else where Happ has a minimum of 20 dollar order fee, or they charge you processing I think) That way, you could wire everything up to that and just pop it on the edge. So you'd be doing minimum soldering if any at all to the board.

I'd add Razoola's guide to your list of reading materials, simply because of the addition of the fuses. You can't go wrong with as much power safeguarding as you can get, in my opinion.

I'm not an electrical engineer by a long shot, but I've had enough explained to me to realize the importance of why you'd rather have a blown fuse than a blown board.
