I was originally going to take a dremel to the cart slot so the american games would fit, but the console is in perfect condition and I can't bring myself to do it.

A pass-through device is my only option here, but does a Game Genie work? If so, I could modify the cartridge to fit in the SFC's cart slot.

If a game genie doesn't work it looks like i'll be looking for one of those honeybee adapters :(.

Buy an Action Replay 2. Honeybee doesn't have the extra pins for FX/SA1 releases so any games with the extra pins won't run through one.

If you're real picky, you should go for some kind of pass through adapter with all pins connected. Even an AR2 will run 99% of all games but will still fail if you try to run Mario RPG for instance.

Well i've checked to make sure the Super Famicom is capable of playing the US Super Mario RPG and it plays fine. So the AR2 can cause compatibility issues? :(

Anyone know if the Game Genie has all of the pins?

A Super Famicom can play a US Mario RPG as long as all pins are connected. An AR2 (at least the ones sold in Europe) need a cartridge in the back for region decoding which Mario RPG detects and hence will not run. Seriously man, a loose US SNES system from a flea market or something will cost you about as much as the adapter, but no hassle. Use the Super Famicom for the other games that do run, which are like 99% or so of all US games even though you have an adapter or just drop the adapter idea altogeher and use two systems.

Or cut the tabs in the US system and use that one primarily for both US and JAP games and keep the Super Famicom because it's cool.

It's missing the FX/SA1 pins.

I say do what Kunio says: just pick up a used SNES and clip the tabs. Keep the SFC around for bragging rights.

Cool thanks for the advice!

I can get SNES systems around here pretty cheap. I traded a US SNES for this SFC just for the sake of having one :) (I have a few SFC games).

i have a game genie i took a dremel/jigsaw to so i can play some of my snes games in my sfc. but the gg doesnt have the extra pins for sfx etc. and for some reason mario kart (rerelease) doesnt work either.

i got an sfc because my snes was yellowed as all hell and nbm is a cool guy.

one option is to buy up some cheap sfc games and swap the pcbs with your snes games.

cutting the cart slot is an involved process and probably wont look too great when youre done.

lots of genny xbands on ebay, no snes.:emb:

After much toiling I decided to trim the cart slot. This was hard as hell and I hope to God I never have to do it again. Anyways, how does it look?

Nice job on the trim. However, with the gaps on the sides of the door it looks kinda funny.

Yeah i'm going to trim some plastic and glue it to the sides of the flap to fill in the gaps.

Hey, what kind of tool did you use to expand the inside of the cartridge slot? I was thinking of doing the same to my super famicom.

you have to admit it takes balls to sign up on a website called Neo-Geo.com just to make your first post on a question about a SFC!

or as said somewhere else "is one of the two: you are bold or plain stupid"

Yeah I have a SFC, and I want to do the same thing he did with his SFC. All I want to inquire about is what kind of tool he used to carve out the inside of the cartridge slot. Whats the big deal?

Bumping a thread dating back to the Bush administration isn't always the best way to gain notice on the interwebs.

Hammer and a dull chisel.

Get yourself a game genie and hack that up to fit in the SFC instead.

I'm not trying to be noticed, all I would like is a answer from the fellow who did the modification. Seeing that these threads are dated , all of these informative threads should be deleted then if that is what your implying.

welcome to NEO-GEO.com

if you have to ask I guess you are not ready for it but a dremel works great for these kind of mods!

you are welcome to stay but be aware we discuss more Neo stuff than other consoles so asking for other consoles right of the bat feels like you want just your info and that's it, if that's the case then why don't you just use google instead?

Thats the thing though, I googled "Modding SFC to play US games" and it brought me to this site/thread which got me interested in the project. I didn't mean to offend or be brash, and the question is off considering the site is dedicated to the Neo Geo Arcade/Home console systems. I just figured it wouldn't pose a problem since this thread is about the SFC.

Buy a snes. It's cheaper than the work you're trying to do and will not look like some Frankenstein monster.
