Crazy question, but my video card kicked the bucket (x700 Pro), and I've been looking for a card that would be good for a graphics/video professional, and less so for gaming.

Anyone here have any recommendations? I only have AGP 8x on my motherboard, sadly, so it'd have to be restricted by that.

P.S. - "When I"

For professional 3D work? Not many dedicated cards like that around and the some that do are hella expensive.
I'd get the Geforce 8800GTX but then again the Geforce 7950GX2 has two cores and 1GB memory so maybe that would be the better card although it doesn't support DX10 like the 8800.

All those cards are PCI-E 16X and he only have AGP8X. If you are looking for professional cards, you have two options:

For 3D rendering - Fire GL is good but the best is the Nvidia QUADRO line, you can still find AGP version f both

For Video rendering - you dont need a specific card for that but the ATI Radeon Line is still the best for 2D images.
