Quick question. I have a Pioneer Laseractive with the sega pac (still looking for the nec one). I got the US model but I was wondering if the JAP games work for it before I buy them. I'm not talking about SEGA or NEC games only the Pioneer LD games. Does Laseractive have region lockout?

You'd probably get a better response in the tech forum.

Yes, it has the exact same lockouts as the indidividual game systems do, depending on your pack region. Namely, Mega CDs won't work on the US Sega pack and JP hu cards won't work on the US NEC pack.

^ Tru, but the LD games will run on any region, its only the standard console games with standard region lock out as per the systems themselves.

Wrong,, Cds have no locks but Sega cart and Hucards do.

Wrong! The Sega CD/Mega CD is region locked. Stick a Japanese Mega CD game in a US Sega CD and watch the magic.

....so....much...ignorance.

Seriously, not to be mean people, but don't offer advice on compatibility unless you know what you're talking about. That's just plain mean and misleading.

The Mega CD/Sega CD all have region lockouts through the internal EPROM which is encoded for the region. You can do mods to remove the EPROM and replace with a multi-bios but I hear this is quite a pain and certainly not as easy as switching with MVS PCBs. There's also the problem of identifying the EPROM which there is no known documetation for I believe (with the Laseractive and CDX and some others as far as I know). Fortunately there is a solution:

Google "Conv SegaCD" and "SegaCD Conv" These are two great programs that will convert 90%+of all Sega CD ISOs to the region you want for play on the Laseractive/Sega CD/Mega CD :)

Also, the Sega pack will fit oversized carts but you must mod the system internally to play later Mega Drive games with lockout capability (there are lists online for which carts have lockout). The mod is possible though and instructions can be found on www.gamesx.com

Actually your right, I never tested my Genesis pack with a Mega CD( I thought I read it somewhere), but the Turbo/Pc Engine CDs are compatible, am currently playing Ys 1 US on a N1 pack.
