I just wanted to start a topic for information on Sengoku 3's gameplay tips, strategies, etc.

I've been playing the coin-op version for the game and absolutely love it !

I've been as far as the 6th stage - Kyoto and found the last boss nuts .... ! Anyone else got something to share ?

I've been trying to get some info on the combo system.

Since I've never seen the game, and I expect to have my home cart version by this weekend, any information you can give to me would be great.

Are the combo's auto combos (ala World Heroes 2) or more like the chain combos of the Real Bout series? Also, can you do "team-up" combos with a second player?

Thanks - I'm really looking forward to playing the game!

Well I ain't sure about auto or chain combos, but the combo in Sengoku 3 is done with a combination of punches, slashes, jump attacks, dash attacks, etc. repeatedly so long as the enemy hasn't died, fallen to the ground or escaped.

Team combos are not allowed, as once the first player begins on a combo, the other player may not attack the enemy which is being attacked by the first player.

As for more information on the game, you could contact me via ICQ or e-mail. I would also like to have a look at the manual and stuff that comes with the home cart.

I am gonna be doing a review for Sengoku 3 on Kazuya-X's NeoGeo For Life Site at http://www.neogeoforlife.com/reviews/sengoku_3.shtml is he accepts it.

Nuff' said ... it's a great game I tell you !! YOU'RE GONNA LOVE IT !!

By "auto-combo", I meant hitting the same button repeatedly and having the CPU execute an automatic combo on the opponent.

For example, in WH2 you could, with Hanzo, hit "punch, punch, punch, punch", and he would then do two punches, a knee and a spinning kick.

The "chain combo" would be like in the Real Bout games, or Last Blade (in Speed Mode) - hit the buttons in order, and also have the ability to interrupt, or finish, with a special move.

Team combos are not allowed, as once the first player begins on a combo, the other player may not attack the enemy which is being attacked by the first player.

What I actually meant was, when playing with another person, the two characters would be able to perform special moves and attacks that they wouldn't be able to normally do when fighting alone. If I remember correctly, the Streets of Rage games on the Genesis had this feature.

Looking forward to it!

Oh I see !!

Combos in Sengoku 3 can be done without any sequence of keys, so it ain't chain. And you can get variations of moves by hitting the punch or slash button more so it's something like auto.

But the idea behind Sengoku 3 and many other side-scrolling fighters goes like this. 3 regular punches, a double kick and a jumping kick to finish (Kagetsura) is done by pressing the punch button (B) 5 times. A small slash, a follow through slash and a mighty blow slash is done by pressing the slash button (A) 3 times.

Combine these few keys together and throw some other moves in them to get combos going up to real high figures.

Sorry I misunderstood the thing about team combos, but there ain't any of that in Sengoku 3 anyway. However, you'll find that coordinating with your partner is vital .... more vital than any other side-scroll fighters I've ever played.

Trying to complete the game still ! On a coin-op !!

Yup, pretty much sounds like some kind of variation of an auto-combo system.

Hmmm... kind of disappointed that they don't have more team interraction - it would have made the game a lot more interesting. Still, sounds good nevertheless.

And if coordinating with your partner is that vital, how tough does that make a one-player game?

Anyway, thanks for the info!

The game is still one-player'able as that single player would have to handle the load of bad guys by himself. You see, during combos, you're concentrating your attacks in one direction ... leaving the other open to attacks.

I personally found having a partner to watch that other side useful and requires a pretty tactful approach to the game. So coordinating with your partner is vital to go far in the game. Single player mode requires a more careful and less heroic approach.

Stats in the arcade I play in Monash University, Melbourne show that single players go up to Stage 4, while two-player teams can get up to Stage 5 on one credit each.

Say, is there any chance you could scan me or pass me the info you'd get from the manual ?? I'd like to add stuff from it into my review.

I can't promise anything, but I'll see what I can do. The scanner here at home is sometimes iffy, so...

If not me though, I'm sure someone else will be happy to do it!

Okay ! Would be great if you could just try. Get me via e-mail or ICQ or something alright !

Would appreciate it lots.

I might just drop by my uni today to play 1 or 2 rounds of Sengoku 3 with my partner and see how well I'd do this time.

Does anyone know how to get the two hidden characters playable?

BTW, I think the game difficulty determines what types of enemies you fight. I noticed female ninjas on the Japan stage when playing on level 4 that I did not see on level 3.

Hey Lite Edge, could you take some pics of the cartridge, manual and box of your S3 Jpn? I'd really like to see what the overall package looks like, and the japanese spine.

Can someone please make a comment on the soundtrack? I've heard that its one of the better soundtracks in the recent history of neo games.

Yes, The soundtrack is amazing...Noise Factory really used the Neo sound capabilities to the fullest. The music is like a mix between the Synth beats of Streets of Rage and the oriental feeling of Samurai Shodown.>>>

You can get the hidden characters, Byakki (green) and Okuni (red with war fan) after completing the first three stages in any sequence ; China, Japan, Italy.

They're basically renegades who help you out in the end after they've lost to you. Byakki is pretty cool !!!

This I got from playing the coin-op of Sengoku 3. So I ain't sure about the difficulty level settings. In the coin-op mode, when it arrived, Japan had only two female ninja assassins. This is when you're up against the old man who meddles with bats, area 2 of Japan with a big Noise Factory electronic billboard.

yeap I'd agree totally !

but when you're playing the game, or at least for me .... I'd get so engrossed with the game, I'd pay little attention to the sound.

I like to have a look at 'em too. Especially at the contents of the manual along with the game. But I'd like the English one or a translation if possible

Kinda intrigued by the story of Sengoku itself.

Does anyone have any idea on the story behind Sengoku 3 itself ?? Or even it's relation to its two predecessors.

A couple of weird-looking hero characters travel through a not-too-distant-future version of several real-world areas, and fight a bunch of weird monsters that are vaguely based on Japanese mythology, classical Japanese paintings, and Kabuki theater imagery. That pretty much sums up Sengoku 3, and the previous games, and that's about as much of a connection as any of them really needs.

Reading it now - however, there is a mistake in the reference to the game's title. "Sengoku 3" is the U.S. name, while "Sengoku Legends 2001" is the Japanese name. You mistakenly have them reversed in the first paragraph.
