there's been next to no posts about this game... i would have thought there would be more interest.

i'm about 15 hours in and it's got me hooked for sure!

There was a thread about it in the Unrelated forum, so most people probably posted in it.

I picked it up. I think it's pretty good, and a solid enhancement over the original, especially in the musical department. I haven't gotten very far yet, though, due to the Wii sapping most of my free time away.

Between Final Fantasy XII, V, III, and Zelda: Twilight Princess, I'm a little overloaded with long adventure games right now. :)

I playing it too. Originally didn't like it much, but I'm digging it more now. ~11 hours in. Some of the jobs are useless, and there's not enough armor upgrades for many jobs. Some of the mobs do stupid damage to your party, but that's all part of the old school fun.

Lvl 29 right now and can't be garuada. Lightning does 3/4 damage to all party members with one attack! Tried switching to all dragoons, but he hits me before they all get the chance to jump. Any tips?

I have it. It makes a great pocket game. It's really the best medium for oldschool RPGs. Heck, I'd love to see quite a few of the old ones I used to play in the heyday, as pocket games. They'd certainly drive me to play them more again.

Actually, I even have the ancient Kings Bounty for the Sega Nomad. And while that isn't quite so pocket (given the size of the nomad), they are perfect formula games for the go, in this day and age. I love it.

Still, Sid Meier is going out and making a portable Pirates Game based off the new Pirates. More power to him, I'll say. I'll probably get that one, too.

I just beat him myself and that's exactly what I did.

I had one Dragoon with a 15-ish job level and he dealt about 3000 damage, the other guys dealt about 800-1500.

Killed him in two turns, technically four because Jump takes two turns to hit.

Lost two guys though.

I like the game a lot.

Blizaga also works great against him... He kicked my ass like 3 times though.

Beat him on the 15th fight. Used white mage, knight, 1 dragoon, and geomancer. Used 2-3 strong damage dealing items. Lost two party members.

I like this game, even though it's super hard.

Picked it up today. Came with what looks like a DS carrying case.
Seems just okay so far. Not near as bored as I was by Lunar: Dragon Song, but I'll get over characters attacking by swinging swords from the other side of the screen.

The music is nice, but it (the game) seems simple without having gotten a job class yet. Only played about a half hour in so far. So I'm not deep enough into the game to really get brought in by story or anything.

My only real complaint is that the main character looks like a girl.
But I guess it was that or spiky hair, eh?

Many Final Fantasy males look like girls, especially with that graphic style. You'll get used to it. I had to deal with it even with the male Selkies in Crystal Chronicles. (My friends used to always joke that I'm really playing a girl)

From GameFAQs:
How to obtain secret job: Onion Swordsman

Back in the original Famicom FFIII, Onion Swordsman was the first job you start as (unlike Freelance from the DS version), but you can play this job in the Nintendo DS version as well by unlocking it. Onion Swordsman is one of the most powerful jobs with the Onion Equipment + past level 90's.

How to obtain:
1)Register someone elses's (or multiple) communication ID under Mog Net.
2)Send message to another PC 7 times
3)Send and receive 4 messages from Topapa, on the fourth one you will receive a message to do a mini-quest.
4)Go to Uoul (First town in the game)
5)Talk to Topapa
6)Go to the cave up north of the cave
7)At the drop hole, you will have an event and then will be proceeded to fight 3 bombs
8)After the battle, you will obtain a piece of crystal, which will unlock Onion Swordsman

ok don't know if the site having problems deleted my post, so i'm going to post again.

I'm now 5 hours into the game and i'm kinda disappointed at it. Everything seems fine, but where's the story? We're the knights of the light to vanquish the dark, yeah yeah, so that includes tedious side quests to accomplish this or is there actually a main plot with a main enemy? Or is it just one side quest after another that really doesn't tie any events into each other? I don't want to read any FAQs or anything just yet as I don't want to spoil anything for me, but if someone can tell me if there is a common storyline and common enemy in the game, then good. If not, i may just stop playing because I play RPGs, especially Square, for a good story.

Aside from your retarded ass, that is.

It's an early RPG. Just how much story do you expect? The game progresses as you do the "side quests." That's how the game works. And that's really all the story you need.

The story in your average RPG (FF games included) is generic and nothing to write home about.

If you want a good story read a fucking book.

That's not the reason why people play video games.

Dumbass.

People play video games to escape from the horrible, horrible reality that is their real lives.

I don't know what the hell that has to do with story in RPGs, nor am I really all that concerned with finding out.

edit: my Onion Rapist post disappeared in The Great Purge. Tragedy, thou hast befallen me.

an RPG at least in my opinion should be more story line based than your average game, if not then its just another adventure game. Yes the game is early, but FFII had more of a story than this game, at least so far, and yes I own it. But to say that an RPG is not about storyline is false, story makes up a great deal of RPGs. How many RPGs can you name off the top of your head that got great reviews with no story? None that I can think of. Even for early RPGs, there were good RPGs on the NES that had great stories. So for me to expect something better from Square should not be something out of the ordinary, and again it is my OPINION. I'm not saying the game isn't good, it is a good game, but i'm disappointed that it lacks any flowing storyline.

and Yes the reason most people play RPGs is to get lost into an interactive story.

You are a moron Hermedildo.

I agree with this. I have played countless RPGS on everything from the psp to the 3do. (Yes I even beat luciennes quest) And the by far the greatest RPG I ever played was Star Control 2 on the 3do. (I know it was released for the pc aswell) Just an astounding game from everything from the music to the story. You want a true true RPG. That one game is the best one ever released. And yeah it was because of the story and how everything intertwined and even the sidequests were nessessary to max out your ship like searching out the rainbow planets. The graphics were subpar but for the time they were great. Gameplay was tops. Story was over the top. Character developement was supreme. Everything about the game was just killer. IF you havent played it. Do yourself a favor and pick up a real RPG. Seriously. Makes final fantasy look like a joke. And its american. Go figure.

Just fucking awesome.

ok i'm almost finished with the game, i'm at the last boss. And not to spoil anything, but there is just about no flowing story to this game at all. It picks up a little bit and gets a little more linear than just side quest after side quest, but it does get better. It's still generic with little to no history on how you even ended up in this situation to begin with, but I assure you it does get better, and in fact, the side quests do play a larger role.

All in all, the game is a good game, and a perfect RPG for a portable, since you can put it down easily without really having to remember what you already have done. But this is far from being the best RPG on the NES, i'm going to try to spell the name of this game, but I can recommend The Magic of Sheherezade for the NES for an RPG.

I picked it up the other day, but so far I haven't been able to get into it. Every time I pick it up, I'm about to fall asleep within 5 minutes. I've tried to get focused and play it, but I keep getting killed by monsters that are stupidly powerful. I don't know if I missed something, but just about every battle I come up against ends with me dying and getting really pissed off.

There's an intro CG scene. There may be more, but I'm not very far into it.
