I was looking on ebay this morning to see if I could find the few stragglers I lack to complete my Lynx library, when I began thinking about how much I love that damn system and how far ahead of its time it was and how drooling padded helmet retarded Atari was to drop the ball on such a great system.

They coulda' wiped the floor with Gameboy if they hadn't been run by retarded monkeys.

When I get home....Stun Runner, Dinolympics, Blue Lightning and some Electrocop are in order. One of these days I am gonna sit down and finish Dracula.

Thats all...I know a lot of people hate the system, but it really had a ton of pick-up-and-play arcade titles. Actually, thats all it had...except for Dracula, Bill and Ted which was great...and could've have Daemonsgate and Guardians :oh_no:

I always thought it looked like a great system but it had the same problems every other color portable had / has besides the Nintendo and SNK ones: expensive + horrible battery life + not really small enough to be portable. I had a Game Gear and Nomad and that's what kept me from really playing them much. I couldn't exactly just toss an expensive and heavy system in a bag and take it with me for fear of it getting damaged and if I did, I needed to have a decent power source. I rarely, if ever ran either of those portables from batteries and I suspect the Lynx was the same way.

But back on the Lynx, I remember spending many trips to Toys 'R' Us drooling over the Lynx display. Those games were just gorgeous compared to the other options.

I wonder what it would take to get a Lynx emulator going on the DS ... I'd love to finally be able to play some portable Stun Runner.

same here....thats what made me get one. On the subject of its portability. I was much younger when I got mine [obviously] and I would lug it everywhere and tear through batteries. But , oddly I don't remember battery life being THAT awful. I would only use the batteries if I was going somewhere...but even then, I had the car adapter....good times.

that would be awesome. Or even on GBA. I think they ported Handy to GP2X though...one more reason to tempt me to buy one of those.

STUN Runner was indeed incredible. I bought that back in the 90s, the day it came out. My friend came by my dorm and he played the heck out of it b/c it is such an incredible port. Heck, no home system at the time can even duplicate the game and to have a portable system do such a faithful port. Simply incredible. That is one game I miss more than anything else when I sold off all my Lynx stuff.

My best friend had one when we were kids. He only had Pac-Land and Warbirds; to be honest I thought both sucked.
I wouldn't mind trying out Toki and Kungfood, tho.

Kung Food is horrible. Lynx is strange, I feel that the games have gotten worse as it gets older.... Some of the launch titles are still the best, like Gates of Zendocon, Electrocop. I have never played Zarlor Mercenary but that looks pretty good too. Heck, even the pack-in California Games was really really fun.

Lynx had a lot of fun games. Anyone remember Switch Blade 2, Chip's Challenge, and Crystal Mines 2? Those were all fun.

SwitchBlade 2 was good [what the hell system was SB1 on???] Ninja Gaiden 3 was awesome.

Kung Food does suck pretty hard. Dirty Larry and Batman Returns coulda' been great with some work. They just needed the difficulty tweaked a bit to be enjoyable.

Dirty Larry looks great though.

I know nothing about Kungfood other than it's a fighting game.
The only reason I want to play it is because the name is Kungfood.
Kungfood
Awesome.

Lynx owner here :tickled:

I remember I rode my Puch moped 1 hour to South Bend Toys R Us to buy this thing. I was 14 or 15, can't recall exactly. I bungee corded it to the back of my moped for the 1 hour return home. I'm fucking hardcore, you know its true.

I still have a Lynx but its not the original one I purchased. I have about 15 games right now. Some of my favorites were Roadblasters, Slimeworld, and Warbirds. That Roadblasters port was simply outstanding, even by todays standards it still holds up even to the newer arcade perfect versions found on MAT.

I'll never forget how good APB was (unfortunately I don't own that one right now). Luckily I had a couple of friends who owned Lynx', so I had the opportunity to really experience the gaming bliss that was multiplayer Warbirds, Xenophobe, and Slimeworld, and Checkered Flag was another outstanding game.

The Lynx was a Lexus. It was backlit, had games which ran in TATE (Gauntlet 3), and was customizable for both righties and lefties. Unlike the Jaguar, I don't think this system was killed due to shoddy games and bad marketing, but alot of what killed it was the Atari name itself. I knew many people who just could not get it out of their heads that 'ATARI' meant 2600, and refused to get a Lynx or even try it out. Too bad, the Lynx still owns the original Gameboy. Nothing the Gameboy did has anything near the quality of the arcade ports that appeared on the Lynx. It took Nintendo another 10 years to surpass the Lynx in technology if you ask me.

I remember I bought a Lynx early on. Ninja Gaiden wasn't the greatest port of the arcade game, but at least it existed.

APB I played the living shit out of. Not the greatest port either, but not a bad game by any means.

KungFood I haven't played in ages but thought the concept was neat even though it didn't succeed in many other areas.

Anybody play Raiden on that thing ? Is it rare? Hard as hell, but it's in TATE mode.

A guy on the shmups forum was selling it a long while back, but for some reason I can't find the thread. I think he was selling it for over $100? can't remember.
He had a lot of info on its release as well.

Another Lynx owner here, although I haven't broken the thing out of storage in quite a while. Love the crap out of Slimeworld, Chip's Challenge and especially Xenophobe. I've also found Ishido has the mark of a great portable game, it's perfect for playing on the crapper. Another gem I don't see mentioned is Klax, graphics and gameplay are outstanding, runs in TATE mode and even includes the voice. That one's definitely worth a pick up.

On a side note, w00t! 1000th post!

The Lynx was a great system all the way.
I was lucky to get one dirt cheap when they were clearing them out and nobody wanted them. I was a gameboy user back then and I was gratefully impressed with my new toy.

My favorites were Chip's challenge, Checkered Flag, Zarlor Mercenary and Shanghai.
I also enjoyed Gauntlet, basically cause I found cool to play vertically, although it wasn't really comfortable... And, of course, I have Kungfood. Everyone should have Kungfood.

I remember reading something about a Lynx re-launch in a game magazine sometime back in 95 or 96, when the Jaguar was on sale. I was quite excited about it, but of course, it never happened. I wonder if Atari really had some plans of doing this or it was just some sort of stupid speculation of the magazine.

I've always wanted a Lynx II though, and I know I'll be buying one in the future...

Lynx II owner here.

Kung food is terrible, one of the worst games I own. I have about a dozen games for the Lynx, among my favorites are Power Factor, Road Blasters, and Crystal Mines II, but don't forget games like Xybots and Steel Talons. 2 games ahead of their time.
