Shall I sacrifice my 1.0 Firmware ??

Ok, so I got a Jap Psp shortly after the launch.

I have Ridge, Golf, Wipeout and a couple of others (can't remember).

I hardly play it, but I loved using the Neo cd emu (so all my neo cd games can run sans sound).

Thing is, I don't even play it for that anymore. The only handheld I use now is the DS for mariokart and AC.

However ... I totally love Outrun 2 but never play it due to my xbox1 being in the loft now and could dig playing it on the psp (if its any good?).

Also I wouldnt mind giving the Initial D and Katamari games a run too.

Thing is I would have to update my firmware and I know that some of you guys can run a later but not final firmware and still use emu's, but I'm now lost with that thing. I just managed to get my neo emu working and now I have no idea how to fanny around with firmware shenanigins anymore.

Plus i am a Mac user, so It seems harder to find stuff for doing it (although I'm sure it's out there somewhere).

Anyhoo, is it even worth hanging on to 1.0 (am I the only one left? )

Will I even play those games that (semi) interest me?

Anyone got some impartial advice?

It's a PSP, designed to play PSP games...

honestly....if its THAT big a deal to you. Go buy another PSP for games and keep your 1.0 for homebrew/emulators. If you regret doing so, you can always make your money back easily selling the 1.0 on ebay.

You should upgrade to 1.5 and use devhook (search in the forums, when kernow tried to install it i gave the link to a simple tool to set everything up, have a PC friend help you in the process).

If you want to go back to 1.00 from 1.5 no problem there are downgraders. the Devhook will let you play almost everything and you can still play your emus (try to go out of the Neo, and play stuff like coryoon, hana taka dakka, star parodia, dracula X, parodius, bomberman 94, superstar soldier on PCengine/SCD)...

In fact your limit will be 1.71 so far, but downgraders for above 1.6 are damn inconsistent (took me about 30 reboots to work, a real hassle).

The games you want to play work like a charm on devhook.

Yeh I did contemplate getting another psp, but I reckon it wont get that much use, so that might be a waste.


I know - what's the point of the psp just to run some emu's, but to be honest I've had more fun with them than with ridge racer and lumines etc.

I think the idea of PS2 graffs on a handheld was great, but somehow it just doesn't translate into handheld fun most of the time.


The main game i was hoping for on psp was GT, but looks like that ain't happening now

I can't see myself messing around anymore with firmware switches, I think at some point i will just crack and get outrun on the spur of the moment.

Anyway are like 1.0 psp's sought after at all - suppose not really if you can step back a 1.5 model.

Having a 1.0 PSP is totally useless now. There's nothing on it that you can't do with 1.5, and there's a lot of stuff you can't do on 1.0. Upgrade to 1.5 or, even better, to the hacked firm 2.71 SE.

you need to tell me about this hacked firmware sometime, I'm on 1.5 and using devhook to load some games pisses me off a bit, I know its not hard or time consuming, but I'm just one angry motherfucker.

Outrun for PSP is really good, I think.

Plus you can find it for 25 dollars just about anywhere.

Yes upgrade already...Plenty of good PSP games out your missing besides Outrun...Emulators are too much a pain in the ass to get running right anyway IMO, not worth the hassle, so I say upgrade the sucker...

Upgrade to 1.50,then install devhook to your memory stick.

Romz,ISOs,access to newer UMDs....all at your disposal.

There's info here http://forums.maxconsole.net/forumdisplay.php?f=80 , it's quite easy, try it and if you have any trouble just asks. It has all the 2.71 abilities without emulating it, and isos appear right away in the launch menu, no need for devhook (still I have it as some games and options are still not compatible), among other stuff, like no UMD while playing (again not all games are compatible).

You should try it from the MS, or via USB (iso on the PC).

i had the cso before, it did the same
