I posted a problem a few weeks ago about my MKII pcb resetting, having weird glitches, etc. I thought the problem had been solved, but I apparently was wrong. Here's whats happening...every now and then when I power the game up, I'll get an error at the initial bootup screen. It tells me the CMOS is bad, and worse yet, UE13 (I'mm assuming this is causing my problem.) The result is gltchy graphics and/or resetting. The funny thing is, this only happens sometimes, and it actually hasn't happened the last few times I've powered the game up. I will still get the CMOS error, but it seems to be random. Any ideas?

Is that just the circular battery on the main board? Would that also cause the UE13 to be showing up as bad? Its been reading ok the past few hours. One more thing...I've seen some MKIIs with another board connected on top...whats that about? Mine is just a single board....well, that and the sound board.

Yes that is the battery, which is responsible for saving settings and scores. If it's going bad or is bad, you'll get a CMOS error. The extra board you see on top of some MK2 boards is called the "memory expansion board." I believe it was only used in earlier versions of the pcb and sometimes it can work its way loose and cause errors. My MK2 machine has this version PCB in it. Did you try reseating the rom that is showing up as bad on the test screen?

SuperGunGuru,
Actually, the CMOS error doesn't really bother me too much...I just have to change the settings every time I play it which can be a little annoying. The main error I was getting didn't come from a mask or eprom at all - it came from the UE13 chip. Its the square chip right in the middle of the board...its not socketed, so no luck there. In the past week, I haven't had a single problem. Strangely enough, I was barely able to get it to run last week, and I have a feeling I'm gonna be getting the error message again soon. Now that I think about it, does anyone have any clue as to what the UE13 is responsible for? Thanks for the replies btw.

I don't have my MK2 board handy, but if you tell me what the chip markings are for UE13 I can tell you what the chip is for.
