Hey Gang,
My SF3 just stopped working this morning (been running it in a cab for like 4 years now) Its just giving me a jumbled pattern at boot.....

so am I looking at a suicide , a cleaning issue, or a power issue? Has anyone seen what a CPS3 does on suicide? does it just give a black screen or does it give an error , or is it the jumbled screen?

Thanks in Advance. been awhile sense I've posted here (like a year I think=)

Is there any easy way to revive one of those boards after the battery dies and the encrypted data is lost? I know Capcom will revive them for a fee.

Only Capcom Japan will and even then you need to be an arcade op there.
Kinda sad really.

Capcom Japan will revive UNMODDED carts for around $100 per cart. Only stipulation is you need to be a legitimate Japanese citizen, not necessarily an arcade op.

Oh an once the encryption tables are lost, there is no bringing them back without the assistance of capcom (at this current time).

Meh they're not that bad. You just need to be dilligant about keeping up with new batteries. Other than that, they're not bad. *knocks on wood* i havent' killed one yet.

I dont mean to sound like a dick but WTF............................

How could you possibly mess a CPS3 system up like that? All you had to do was change the battery I mean god damn that sounds fu*#in stupid!

I'm sorry if I seem angry but I cant afford a SF3 third Strike an I cant imagine if I did have one not changing the battery every 2 years.

He may not have known about it. I'm sure a lot of carts have met similar fate simply due to the owner not knowing this was possible.

take it easy dude.... are you really that angry at the guy that you actually need to imply he is fu@#kin stupid? Get real.

Sorry about your game man, one of mine died doing a swap. I was bummed about it for a week, or at least until I found another one for 200. Dont give up on CPS3 or third strike though, best fighting game ever.

What really sucks about it is Capcom's nonchalant approach to this whole issue.

Have to be a Japanese citizen? So typically nationalistic of them. So what about all those U.S. cart owners? Since we know that Capcom USA won't do anything about it, just SOL?

All of it is just absurd. That's one of the few games I wish would get broken into and emulated just out of spite. You'd think their would be better given attention and support into what's generally regarded to most as their top 2d fighter, even if the genre is becoming more niche.

7zark7, be ready to drop some dough on a new one or just chalk your losses.

If your interested in the preservation of third strike, than parhaps your energies would be better spent attaining one of your own and keeping it alive instead of harshly criticizing others for irreversable mistakes that have already been made. Just a suggestion.

Oh, and just for the record, your sit down neo is not bigger than my stand up.

Take care,

I'd keep that board if I were you 7zark7. Who knows, maybe in the future there will be a way to bring back these boards... at least we can hope.

wow. Thanks for all the replies. from what I see I guess it is the battery and not a power or cleaning issue. damn.

I paid $180 for it about 5 years ago from a guy from the sales board here. Its been played probably 20 minutes a day sense, so I guess I got my moneys worth. Still, I didn't expect it to die at all.

I knew that the cps2s had batteries issues and I had heard the the 3s did as well, but I was told that if they were in regular use that it was less of an issue (due to the battery not being used when its powered by a cab.) I guess this was wrong, or maybe the board had sat for a long time before I got it. I've seen cps2 battery swaps on cps shock, but does anyone have a link for a cps3 battery change? just curious.

I shot Vinh an email and one to a friend at capcom. Maybe there is something that can be done. I'm going to try swapping in a differenot mobo and cd drive from another cps3 game a co-worker has just to make sure its not some other component, but my hopes on this are low.

I've seen SF3 third strikes in Japan for around $400 and there is one on ebay now for $550 I think..

Jumbled screen is usually a dead cart, but TS carts don't normally show that screen, they just just show blank?

Mine did. >_<
