Is there a battery, in any way, associated w/ the Sega naomi system? I'm just curious. I'm talking in the Motherboard, Rom cartridge, or RAM cart because I don't think there's anywhere else to put one. I've never taken a mobo or a rom cart apart so i'm wondering if anyone knows?

I've replaced Cps1(Q), Cps2, and am about to replace a cps3 battery. I was just wondering since capcom has mvc2 rom cart and Cvs2 gd rom games for the system. I also have a virtua tennis and a house of dead 2.

Thanks

The mobo has a battery, but it's only for saving back-up data. The carts DON'T die like the CPS2 ones, even Capcom games, so don't worry.
The DIMM cart also has a battery.

Just to add a little more about the DIMM board battery, most of them are dead after 16months so you'll more than likely get a dead battery in your DIMM board but not that it means the board is now dead either. The battery keeps the game loaded on the DIMM boards ram for 3 days and then deletes it if it's not used within that time so if the battery is dead it means that every time you turn your Naomi on and want to run a GD game it has to load the game into the DIMM board,no biggie though.

First off, thank you to both of you for responding, very helpful. BTW I run an arcade and am not some home gamer w/ a cab or supergun. In other words my games are on for 12+ hours a day.

Lachlan - That's funny you mention that about the Dimm board. We have only had 3 GD rom games and they have all been the guity gears XX, #R, and now SLASH. All of them reboot each morning. I thought that was just how the GD rom system worked? What kinda battery is in the Dimm, lithium I'm guessing, 3 or 3.6v?

What kinda battery is in the MOBO and can I change it cps2 style? (40 min ticking clock/bomb!) Or does the mobo need to be powered?

Thanks again for the info

If I remember correctly, the Naomi MB will take a CR2032 battery. Replacement can be done without worry. Simply power off the MB, remove the existing battery and snap it the replacement. The system manual states that this battery should not be replaced but you can disregard this warning. I have replaced the battery on 2 Naomi MBs without any problems.

Thanks again meanbean, is there nothing u can't help a fool wit?

so what will happen if this battery dies? Is it just dead and you can put in a new one? or is it cps suicide style?

solder or battery holder?

CR2032 - is this a lithium or nicad or something totally different? voltage? Battery size ie. 1/2 AA?

I guess I should just open 'er up and see?

Thanks again everyone for your help:)

CR2032 is a watch battery & is just the same as the Dreamcast VMU 1's (round & flat).
