I use devhook to emulate 2.71 so I can play umds like outrun 2

does it chug on a real 2.71 machine? its got quite a bit of slowdown and grinds to a halt sometimes for 2 seconds

it must be because of the emulated firmware

I don't run it on UMD, I run it from memory stick and it is smooth as butter (with occassional slowdown).

A little slowdown occasionally, but no stopping for 2 seconds.

It happened to me on my slower Sandisk 1GB memory stick gamer edition. On my faster sony one (but more expensive per megabyte) it was halt-free.

The pause comes from the loading of levels chunks if your memory stick is not fast enough for access times, specially if you use a CSO image.

With a fast memorystick and the clock set at 333MHz the game is blazingly smooth.

I haven't used UMDs for a long time. This game worked well con memory stick, just don't compress it.

I .. own the UMD people

:shame:

I doubt its my memory stick unless the emulated 2.71 on it isnt executing fast enough for certain firmware function calls .. or something.

but I doubt that. hmm

edit: I guess I'll just play it on 333MHz or something.. sigh

Using UMD's is not good for baby Jesus, even if you own them. That's what back-ups of your originals are for. Less noise, less loading time, longer battery life, no forcing a shitty Sony drive hardware...

theres no way I'm keeping 600MB or more of outrun2 on my 1GB mem stick.

:shame:

The game is a bit skippy though, and it does halt occasionally at the beginning of a race.

Well. they are all pro duos. Its all it takes. However the sandisk is about twice as fast as the sony when accessing stuff. I own the sandisk gaming stick. Not sure if that even makes a dif or not but mine is smooth. Also im not really sure on the access times of the fake ones flying around as they also might be dif.

A good way to check I guess would be to monitor the memory stick light. Does it come on when the loading happens?

Maybe formating the memory stick and putting everything back on might help.

And what about compression. Is it an iso or cso? That may be a factor.
