Hi everyone

Just wondering whether any left handed people have any issues using the stylus on a DS Lite???

I intend to get one with Brain Training, Mario Kart, New Super Mario and Yoshi Island 2 (when thats out). Are there any control issues for lefties for these games??

What about any other good games, which lefties find hard to use?

Any constructive comments welcome guys

Cheers

It's fine.
The only problem I've ever had with being left handed is one mini-game in the DS version of Super Monkey Ball. Most games have a handedness setting.

As a lefty, I personally find the DS Lite to be uncomfortable since I grib the side of my DS with my right hand and then my fingers are jamming into the empty stylus spot. That's the reason I stick with my original DS.

I'm not left handed, but I have a DS. When you use the stylus, that pretty much takes over, so you don't have to worry about needing one hand over the other while using the touch pad. Unless you have trouble holding stuff with your right hand for some odd reason, haha, I think you should be fine. The DS is pretty awesome. Mario Karts, New Super Mario Bros. both don't really need the touch pen. Yoshi Island will probably be the same, but I could be wrong. Brain training is more stylus oriented, but like I said, it shouldn't be a problem.

Nearly every game i've played has setting for us southpaws. Metriod prime hunters is what i'm currently playing and my left handedness dosn't affect the gameplay one bit.

I can see how DS might pose a unique challenge with stylus/gamepad management, but it's good to see nintendo addressing it. I have a feeling that's the reason the action buttons are so close together. Before just now, I really hated the DS button setup, but if that's a reason for it, good for nintendo.
do lefties have trouble with gaming on any platform?

on a side note, does anybody but me miss right-handed controllers sometimes?

Left handed people still exist? :tickled:

I was actually thinking about this issue the other day, from a right-handed point of view of course. Do you feel that game controllers and arcade cabs are designed with no lefty love? Always wondered that.

Southpaw has nothing to do with handedness. I am right handed but stand in a soutpaw position as I am very good at parrying with my right hand.

I dont know why I said that. :eye: :eye:

Maybe it's because all i've ever know, but i have no trouble with any game controllers, arcade cabs, or computer mice. In fact I always think its a bit strange when I see a lefty has has moved the mouse to their left side......

Left handedness

I've never found using a control pad on any system (Atari 2600 right up to Xbox 360) to be a problem at all being left handed. Its just the DS uses the stylus so thats why I asked. Possibly gave me an advantage on N64's Goldeneye using the left hand on that crafty Z trigger hahaha

I do find it weird that some left handed people use a mouse in their left hand - now that is odd even to me.

Now back to the DS Lite - is there a setting on the actual DS to set all the games to be left handed, or is it game-specific? Do these settings save as part of yr ingame profile?

Now if only I can track down a left-handed screwdriver.....

Only problem I have had is when you have to use the x,y,b,a button instead of the D pad to move characters like in shitty Mario Hoops. It is hard as hell to go diagonal because the buttons are too far apart ala psp D pad.

They are actually designed for lefties... controlls on the left and fire button on the right.

back in the day, some righties would play games with their hands crossed.

I figure it depends on the game. A lot have lefty-control schemes, and many games are pretty free-hand.

But certainly not all. Check up on the games you're interested in.

This thread reminds me of another thread about left handed people that was active a long time ago in which there were a whole ton of people saying they were left handed (In which I applied percentages too and an average based on national average of left handed people in which I called them a bunch of liars). Yet I don’t see one of there names here contributing to the thread in any way in regards to there left handed experiences. In which I think they would be proud of it and jump right in as it is something they can relate too.

I just think it’s sort of funny.

I expect this to become a flame war now.

Thats some dumb shit man. Why would someone lie about what hand they write with? It seems to me that a lot of left handed people play videogames, so seeing a lot of them on a video game forum wouldn't really surprise me that much. I think it has to do with our brains being wired in reverse. Infact I've always felt like being left handed has given me some sort of advantage over righthanded game players because most controllers seem like they are designed for left handed people in mind.

So whats that average? Last I checked it was about 1/10 people are lefties.

That's the rough stat.

I'm left handed so chalk up another one here ;)

Though I'm pretty ambidextrous in most things, so it doesn't matter too much which hand does the action. I just can't write all that well right-handed however, so for the purposes of the DS, it is always having the stylus in the left.

Can't say I've had any real problem playing any game on the machine so far, most games are designed to be handled either way, though obviously being right-handed helps for things such as Metroid Hunters as using the crosshair for movement is going to be easier than trying to do the same on the four buttons.

It’s not dumb. I remember counting like 39 people in total or something in the thread that said they were left handed.

Then I basically brought down the list to the people who spam constantly in every thread. Which was like 25 people or something all saying they were left handed. I don’t remember the figure exactly.

Then I took the 25 people that spammed every thread and I compared it against the average number of members logged in at any given time. Which is like 75 or so or something I don’t know.

So what is 25 out of 75? About 33% correct?

The national average is 10 percent on a world wide basis that carry all kinds of characteristics. Yet all the people who say they are left handed spam every single thread and roughly have the same mentality.

So all in all 23 percent of the remaining 33 percent of people that post in every single thread are full of shit. All because they want to be a part of something larger. Yet to be so proud of it and not chime in on a thread specifically dealing with left handed people in which they spam every thread anyways. Speaks an entirely dif story. Bunch of liars. At least in my opinion.

I expect this thread to explode now. :conf:

Using your logic....half of the people in my company are left handed, but that can't be because the national average is 10%. Therefore they must be full of shit (even though I see them write with their left hands). Now, do you see how fucking retarded you are?

Back on topic. I have a DS and am also a lefty. No probs with games at all. At first I thought I'd have a problem with Brain Age, but that game has a left hand option.

Using my logic. I’m just reiterating back what people have said.

However this is where the details come into play. Don’t jump to conclusions now or it just might bite you in the ass. Systematically lefties are prone to certain types of thinking and hobbies. Yet when you apply the mentality of the people here to that logic it just doesn’t hold up as we are on a video game forum that doesn’t even cater to the neo-geo anymore. Let anything specific in general diversifying the people here. So all the lefties in your company thing might very well be true. Just curious. What company do you work for?

There isn’t anything dumb about it. You just didn’t put in all the variables and came to a half baked conclusion. Don’t judge things at face value. It’s only half the truth.

Hay.

Don't post in handhelds.

Only DS game I've ever really played was Dawn of Sorrow.

Don't recall any problems.

:oh_no:
You are seriously retarded. I guess you dont know what I was pointing at. You compared the national average of lefties to an 'average' on this site. Comparing thousands sampled to double digits here....uh huh. That is why I made fun of you with my company's lefty stats.

I dont even know why you assumed that every lefty on this site owns a DS and would respond to this thread. That is one reason why not many lefties responded, now here comes another. I didnt choose to respond at first and I'm a lefty. Why? Because the OT's questions have already been answered by other lefties, no need for me to jump in.

BTW, the way you calculated the %/average of lefties on this site was wrong, way wrong.

I'm done with you.

When you got yourself beaten up by ten guys at once during gym class, all because you challenged them, did you call it a "war"? Because what's going on in this thread is to a flame war what you getting swirlied was to a war.
