Hi guys,

I have a quick question for the gods of neo-geo. I recently purchased a neobitz encoder & attempted to hook it up to my motherboard. I get an excellent picture, problem is that it is in black & white. Now I do get color, but only when I touch the bottom of the encoder board in certain spots with my fingers. What should I do? I actually had someone asseble the encoder board for me. Thanks.

Not familiar with that encoder, does it have a trimmer for the chroma sub carrier frequency.

Is there a variable capacitor on the pcb ??

I'm guessing since you said some "assembled" it that you got the Neobitz-S. Did this person follow the instructions on the Neobitz websire properly? And did he also connect the chroma and luma lines correctly.

Also pics would help.

It does sound like a grounding issue. Make sure your harness has continuity between the Neobitz PCB and your ground source. Also make sure it's ground ;)

On the SVideo jack, you can connect both ground pins together. These are the two pins that are furthest apart. Make sure both of these are grounded.

Hi Guys,

Yup it's the neobitz s. I think the person that assembled it did a good job. I'm hoping that it is a grounding issue & I will check that out tonight when I get home. I trying to use S-Video. Here is a picture of the board.

Thanks

Try hooking up the composite and check if the picture is correct. I am pretty sure its the wiring to the S-video jack that is the problem.

Hi guys,

Quick update:

I finally got color through both s-video & component. It turns out that one of the legs on the 3.57 Crystal needed to be soldered a bit better. Whew, I'm so happy that Iv'e got that done.

Any chance you guys could be so kind as to point me in the direction of some info on how I can get the sound working in conjunction with my TV? Thanks a million.

What MVS board are you using?

Just connect the left and right speaker out on the jamma edge connector to left and right RCA jacks and both to common ground.

HI guys,

I have a MVS MV-1 board. So if I'm understanding you correctly I need to the the Audio + and connect it to one of the plugs & also take the audio minus & connect it to the other plug, while making sure both plugs are also connected to ground. That will be my stereo? Thanks.

No, sorry I didn't take that into account. The audio + and - are for a mono connection. I don't think you can get stereo off the jamma connector on the MV-1. Use the connector for the headphone jack.

Ok, then I should be ok for mono with my above plan, right? Thanks again.

No, I'm pretty sure that you can get stereo through the Jamma Connector.....

There is a seperate 4 pin socket on that board for stereo outputs to the speakers (or you could take it from the headphones), MV-1 does not have stereo sound via the main harness.

You can see this socket (CN 2, 4 pin socket) on page 4 of the manual, the jamma edge connect has + and - for a single mono speaker across jamma pins 10 and L, there is no option for stereo from the edge connect on this model.

Manual here
http://www.hardmvs.com/manuals/MV-1 Partial.pdf

Pin out for socket CN2 -stereo speaker connection.

1. Left speaker +
2. Left speaker -
3. Right speaker -
4. Right speaker +

You can use the attenuation circuit above across this sockets outputs, just as if it was out of the jamma edge connect on mvs.
