He will be missed. It's hitting me harder than if I actually knew him personally. I mean I got used to seeing his posts, (as with others in online BBS) and through that you feel you know the person, sometimes even better than if you actually were face to face. To hear that he's dead only makes worse the fact I will see no more of his posts. He was a good man from what I could see... and a die-hard gamer until the end. I will definately have him in my prayers along with his family left behind. I've got a first name (Steve) but what's his last? Does anyone know? I feel kind of strange (no joke here ppl so don't start with me okay) praying to God about SNK4Ever... I need a real name.

About the accident? Was it his fault or someone
elses? Were any other people involved in it?

That really sucks. It is too bad that he died in a car accident. crying This may sound strange to you guys but I think that he should be burried with his Neo Geo. In ancient times people were burried with their most prized things. I think that it would be fitting for him to be burried with his Neo and a favorite game. That way he could play the game for the rest of eternity. I know that if I died I would like to be burried with my Neo and Eight Man. I hope that his family can get over this and move on with their lives.

the only proof i have is that his dad called in this morning and informed us of what happened. i highly doubt that either him or his dad would do this as a joke. i am making this judgment call on the fact that i have known him for about two years.
Also, as soon as i find something in the papers, i will post it here, at the begining of the thread. i think thats fair.
furthermore, (and i am asking nicely), please stop asking for proof. if you knew him, and would like to wish his friends and family well, or would like to rember him from a story, post it in here.

oh yeah, i am going to print this thread to help comfort his parents.

Folks I dont know what to say here. Steve was my first friend here on these boards. I met him in chat and we talked for awhile, this was back in the day when Hanzo was still a mod, Prozerg, SamuraiX, the good ole days.....

Tool was still known as Breadslice and me and Steve use to pm back and forth playing good cop bad cop funning with him and joking around. Steve was one of the funniest guys to talk to ever. Though I never got a chance to meet him, he was thought of as a friend, a good friend and I am deeply saddened.

Kevin (Riotoftheblood), Steve and I were all very close for along time.

Fuck I am just babbling now, for once I am truely at a loss for words.

Godspeed my friend, you will truely be missed.

i didn't know the thread had been moved. what the hell is this man. it just kinda puts things into perspective. granted it's the internet he still seemed like a friend, a compatriot, hell a drinking buddy; whatever you called him the song remains the same. a good guy and a good buddy to quite a few people here. he will indeed be missed.

Steve was the first person I met in person from the forums... in fact, he invited me to his house. We used to hang out weekly, in fact we were like brothers. Lately he had been spending more time with his ex-girlfriend... I know he was deeply distraught when they broke up, and
I hope this has nothing to do with that...

Despite his depression he still fought to keep a positive attitude. Truly a nice, genuine guy inside. I know that Tattoo and Spike Spiegel, who also knew him in person, feel the same as I do.

RIP brother.

Although I always find it hard to express real sentiment in type, I do offer my condolences to the family and friends (even on this board) of his. He had a nice cab, and had great input to the boards, seems like there was a lot of War Room posting in his past :p I hope his parents can be strong but losing a child isn't something they should deal with. Crossing the Bar

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For though from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar.

-Lord Alfred Tennyson

Godspeed, Steve.

Woah, 22 is way too early to go.
I never spoke to him directly but I remember being piqued by his "Fatal '58 Fury" flaming car sig. Kinda ironic... A little numbing to realise that we wouldn't see him post any longer.

This thread he started nearly exactly a year ago sums up what a sweet fellow he seems and how he viewed this online community as more than just digital media.

I didn't know SNK4EVER/Steve well, but what I had seen showed a real quality guy. It's always sad to lose someone, and doubly so when so young.

It's obvious from the thread here that Steve touched a lot of people on this board, and made a difference, even by just typing into the ether for others to see. His ability to touch people in a positive way, even through something as impersonal as a BBS is testament to his good nature.

I will certainly miss having you here, Steve, wherever it is that you are reading this. Just know that a lot of people have taken notice of your absence and will miss your presence here.

SNK4EVER, bro'...in the afterlife, the MVS is always set to free play. Enjoy. :)

I never knew the guy personally but from his posts he seemed to be a genuinely good guy. I personally (in Irish tradition) am going to go out and have a drink. I will then have another drink for him. I think that we should all go out and have a drink in honor of the dearly departed. Our true selves are not in this body. Like the phoenix from ancient mythology we rise from the ashes to be seated alongside the creator and become more than what we were in life. We are now eternal and we are in the heavens flying on the four winds and are dancing on air. Do not look at death as an end but as a beginning of a new and angelical life where there is no pain and suffering but eternal joy. We may rise and fall but our eternal soul lives on. Our bodies may die but our memory will live on in others for those whom we have touched. Dude, you will be missed.

Well sometimes this BBS shows that it can be
a comunity! Though it's a pitty that it needs
a such a sad tragedy to let it shine.

I thought about all of us walking together
on Steves last Mile but because the neo comunity
is spread all over the world, this will not
happen. :(
And somehow this idea reminded me of this scene
in backdraft and I shed a tear.
For the ones of you that don't know the scene,
I sampled it:
Backdraft MP3 1.18MB

Call me sentimental, but I am very sad that we
can't join together to show our respect to a
member of this board.

So SNK4EVER, I salute you! Rest in peace!

to express my feelings in a foreign language.

Man, this is disheartening. I'm just getting home from work and reading this. What a horrible thing to happen to the Neo community. I've gotten into a few discussions with SNK4EVER here on the boards, but never got to know him personally. But from the few times I've discussed things with him, and from reading his contributions to this board, you just know that wasn't here to BS anybody when it comes to the Neo community. He was very knowledgeable about the whole scene and helped me with some things when I was a newbie a few years ago. His presence will be sorely missed here, and may GOD help his family cope with such a horrible loss.

Thank you to the good people who had the goodness to bring the complete truth of this news to the Neo community.

They say your life can be measured by how many folks you have touched. I guess Steve has had a pretty nice life.

I do believe everything happens for a reason, and whatever reason(s) it may be, I'm sure the Lord had a good one for it.

Remember what Hamlet said? Use the human skull as inspiration. Because in the end, one way or another, this is all we will become -- a human skull. And so, seize the day. Tomorrow is not for sure. Will you make an effort to make this world better while you're here, or will you just kinda go with the flow?

Steve -- Rest In Peace.
Wherever you are, I hope you can be at peace (eventually, at least). God bless your soul.

One more thing I want to say about Steve.

I don't know whether he liked the game or not, but I think a pretty good image of him could come from the game, "Outrun."

Hopefully he's somewhere right now, driving around in a Ferrari Testarossa or car of his choice, with a female companion by his side. And together they will be zooming down Coconut Beach on a picture perfect Sunday afternoon, followed by a cruise down Cloudy Mountain into the starry night of the Old Capitol, concluded by a longlasting ride down beautiful ole Lakeside... where he and his female companion will forever ride off into the sunset.

Some say Outrun is what video gaming is all about. In some circles, it is. And I can only imagine what it'd be like in real life if we could be like the carefree guy in Outrun for just one day -- driving our female companion along, state to state, coast to coast. It sure as hell would be peaceful, exciting, and never a dull moment.

Hopefully, Steve is somewhere taking place in that kind of bliss.

Steve?!80-02...

Death is as real as life.

Being a clone of steve, i too loved transformers and trading quote from films with him on PM...but, to be honest, im not in shock, yet.

You see, im 21. A few months younger than he. I love my VW, he even posted me when I started a forum on VW Golfs, we laughed. But, you see, im 21. We shared the same interests, SNK4EVER was the name in my PM box. He died so fast, but you see, IM 21!

The times together, are only remembered when the time is apart. I cant start to remember because, hes JUST become apart. He was so young. Id like information on the faults of the accident....As a neo geo tribute I have an idea. I will start a card, and have it sent off. To someone on the forums in the UK perhaps, like me. If you want to sign the card, PM your address to my account, I will send it to the first person who mails me there, maybe after 20 or so we can have it sent to his family? I shall get a card, and mail it off to the first person then, send it off around the world....anyone have his home address?

Its so tragic, I feel for his family so much, because im in the same shoes. I look around, and if I didnt come home one night from driving in my car, I wouldnt be there to thank my mom for cleaning my room.Im 21, nearly 22 too.Reality.

Regards,

To the family online, and off.

I have not had the honor of knowing him personally, but what time I did have speaking with him, he was a very kind and gentle soul. He will be missed very much. My condolences go out to his family. I am shocked!

Life is way too short to sweat the small stuff. We should all just be happy that we are alive and that we are surrounded by our loved ones. We are better people than to argue about what game is better, why this or that costs this much. Just be happy with what you have and that you can still see the ones you love, love you back.

That is all I have to say at the moment.

Take care SNK4EVER, you will be missed greatly.

Sadly, I only talked to him (Steve) once, about a game he had for sale. He was extremely friendly and courteous and I always enjoyed reading his posts. Reading this news was very disconcerting, and as well as feeling sick for his family, truly made me think about life and what carries actual importance.

If anything can come from this, I feel it is that everyone should realize that things like this sadly may happen in an instance, and unfortunately you can't undo them. There are no second chances, no "I wish I had/had not said", no finishing something you had started, nothing. I guess it simplifies to the old saying, live every day as if it were your last.

I will say a prayer for Steve and his family, as well as one of thanks, for being fortunate enough to be able to put my son to bed. Hopefully all of us reading this will do the same.

One of the most honest members on this entire forum. He always had something good to say be it Neo related, war room, unrelated.... He truly will be missed. My deepest condolences to his family.

I agree with Makismo on this one, he should go with his Neo and favorite game... someone should tell his parents. I can honestly say that if it were me I think I would want my Neo with me, but that's just me (maybe I'm a little fanatical).

I once wondered what it would be like if a member of this forum passed away. Now I know, it truly feels like we have all lost a friend. It really gives me a warm feeling to see everyone pouring out their deepest sympathies. A true sense of community... family.

Like some others on this board, I did not know Steve (SNK4EVER). However, I just read the thread that was linked earlier regarding him and his relationship pursuit. And while I can't claim to be a first hand witness to his character, his posts in that single thread conveyed such a human element of honesty and humbleness; it brought a sense of joy and fraternity across this digital medium we call a message board. It is contributions like this, I believe, that will continute to resonate, and offer a sense of inspiration to us all.

I offer my condolonces, and you will be in my prayers.

Rest in peace, Steve. And thank you.

I never knew him really, i dont think we have even talked. but i always remember him as an active member in our community. just thinking about everything really makes me tear up. i think of what would happen if it was me that could die tomarrow. and what my friends would do or say. but it is good to know of what has happened. i always wondered, if i die people on this board wouldnt know it along with all the other boards and people i know. i would just go away and maybe in a few months someone would ask. where is Liq_Wurm. but no one would know. so i feel that it is important to remember those who have been taken from us let his name always stay in the hearts of all of us. and never rid his profile so he knows that he will always have a place on our board.

its hard to find the words to describe what i am thinking now. let his memory live on forever.

Steve has been posting here as long as I can remember. I never knew him as close as some other members, but I hope that my words aren't taken lightly due to that.
I had three loved ones die over the course of last year, and all but one were unexpected. There is no greater sadness than the loss of life, and I only hope that those who knew Steve best can find comfort. There will be many other people that can bring strength to his family that actually knew him, but let the respect of this community go on to a testament of how strong human compassion can be. Steve will be missed. By many of us here.
I give my deepest respect and strength to those members here who knew him, and of course his family.
This board will never forget its fallen member.

I never had a chance to meet you Steve. We had planned Neo get togethers on numerous occasions, but they never happened...

When things like this happen to people close to my own age, I can't help but remember something that was spoken at a very dear friend's funeral many years ago..

This was said in Greek, but it went like this..

" When God sent you off into the world he wept for he would be apart from his child. He knew however one day you would hear his voice calling your name and that you would come back home to be by his side again. "

See you one day Steve... crying buttrock

As tattoo said, we're all here becuase of a common interest: the love of video games, and it's heartening to witness what this community can do in a time like this.

This is a life-changing event for me.

I didn't really know the guy and hadden't spoken with him much, but he was one of those people whose screenname just popped up all over the place. A good guy.

I guess it kinda freaks me out. He was 22. I turned 24 a couple months ago (December 1st) A few days before my birthday, I got into a car accident. The car was a loss, but I was fine. He wasn't so lucky.

I guess it just bothers me that I've outlived someone younger then me.

Steve often asked me for advice on topics that he was unfamiliar with and with that he was almost like a kid brother. Munster man dies in early morning wreck
BY JIM MASTERS

Times Correspondent

HAMMOND -- A 22-year-old Munster man died Wednesday morning after his car struck a light pole and then a cement embankment in the 3000 block of Sheffield Avenue.

Steven Howarth, of 113 Beverly Place, was pronounced dead at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Ill., where he had been airlifted via a University of Chicago emergency helicopter, Hammond police Lt. Richard Hoyda said.

Christ Hospital is the nearest trauma center.

Howarth suffered head and spinal injuries, Hammond Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Kochis said. There were no passengers in the vehicle.

Howarth was driving a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix northbound on Sheffield at approximately 12:34 a.m. when he veered from the right lane to the left lane to pass another vehicle, a witness told Hammond police. His vehicle then traveled off the left side of the road and struck a metal light pole, sheering it off, and then smacked into the embankment at the Indiana Toll Road overpass, police said.

Firefighters found the vehicle positioned precariously on its side, Kochis said. First, firefighters had to secure the vehicle to prevent it from rolling down the embankment and possibly onto the rescue crew, and then used hydraulic cutters and spreaders -- "the jaws of life" -- to extricate Howarth.

Kochis said it took about 30 minutes to free Howarth.

"It was a pretty quick task, especially when we first had to stabilize the vehicle on its side," he said.

I hear they have SS5, LB3, and MotW2 there... Designed by the teams of the old SNK. :)

Well, I'll have a drink for Steve tonight.

You'll be missed by many, it's good that in life he touched many people on this site, that is the mark of a good man.

I haven't known how to respond to this thread properly because I did not know him at all, but I've been reading the thread all along. I guess it's been on my mind even though I didn't know him. He's close to my age and he even resembles me a bit. I always think about death a lot and how any day could be my last, and I try to live as happily as I can because of it. I'm not a person who believes too strongly in an afterlife or heaven, but I think I can say for sure that Steve will never have to deal with pain or sadness ever again... In other words, he is resting in peace. That I do believe very strongly.

Steve, may your life be rememered in happiness... Your actions while you were will be a cause of happiness far into the future... Because the people you touched will pass on that goodness to others, and those others will pass it on as well, and as long as there are people you will have helped them be happy through this causal chain. I can tell this is the case because of the things people have said about you. No one feels any animosity towards you. You have only friends here. That says a lot.

Sad and senseless death, it's weird I sometimes thought that us Neo-Geo fans would always leave forever.
