doing a search I found MKL mentioned that SNK modded some early pro pow systems to work with both 5v and 9v power supplies.
I was wondering what I should look for upon opening up the neo I have here. I have a working AES system but have no 5v power supply - if I got lucky and this system did work with a 9v (slim chance, I know) I could use one of the ones I have lying around.
it's a PRO POW system by the way. serial number is in the three thousands.

you'd have to be very clear though - I don't know what I'm looking at or looking for on the board - just opened it up.

it sais NEC across the side of the board, something I haven't seen before.

thanks in advance guys

Can you shoot some pics of the motherboard?

I'm not sure if any AES system can run on both power ratings (5v or 9v)

ah man.. you got me. I don't have a digital camera right now. MKL mentioned it in a couple of threads. though maybe what he ment where that these pro pow system could work with 9v and not 5v - that was my interpretation but it could be wrong.

Do you have the links available? If so, I'll take a look.....

just edited my reply - maybe the pro pow systems worked with 9v not 5v, and I missunderstood what MKL ment. the search funcion is acting up, I'll find the threads when it works again.

DR,

Why don't you just get a 5V AC adaptor? I have some aftermarket ones that will work perfectly with your setup. I don't think it would be more than $25 shipped.

yeah I'm kind of being a bit lazy and impatient. thanks for the offer, I'll definetly keep it in mind.

so did NEC make the PCBs for SNK at some point?

It's either 5v or 9v not both. What you have is a 1st generation console with a NEO AES board that wasn't modded for a 9v supply or else you'd see a sub-board placed above the cart slot with yellow, red and black wires coming off of it. You have a more common 5v version (PRO-POW). If you don't want to get a compatible desktop/wallmount PSU you could use an old PC PSU (AT type with handy built-in switch) and use a floppy power extension and run a black and a red wire to a neo-compatible power socket (2.1 x 5.5mm) at the other end.
