PSP sales for America over the last 5 weeks

Sept NPD numbers are coming in and the PSP has preformed horribly. The performance is so bad you have to question what the hell Sony is doing wrong.

This was supposed to be the handheld would put an end to Nintendo, but it got out sold by the GBA, once again.

It can also emulate like no other handheld out there. It wasnt meant for rpg ds loving fags. It was meant to eat the fuck out of the ds in speed performance and graphics. The saddest part is that the PSP has such potential for greatness and yet nobody wants to put forth the effort to tap into it.

The DS and its library of stellar games whoops its ass with ease.

Hell... even the GBA is still far more interesting to me at this point as there's still a pretty big list of great games I've yet to play on that thing too.

That really is the saddest part. I still buy PSP games when something good comes out, but it pisses me off that that is only about twice a year, if that. Ergonomically and aesthetically I love the PSP, but the non-emulated software sucks for the most part, and that's a real shame. UMDs were a total waste of time (glad I never bought any), and having to update firmware sucks too.

The PSP was ambitious, but that wasn't capitalized on correctly. I hope Sony can turn it around before the decide to just back out of the handheld market completely. Competition is great in any market, but if Sony fails here, who is left to continue to push Nintendo to keep making great portable games?

I imagine Nintendo will always have an excellent handheld (they've become known for it nowdays), but I would prefer some healthy competition, just to ensure the future of high quality games in the handheld market.

I really thought Sony would succeed where so many others failed, but it looks like they could care less if they do or not

gpx doesnt come close. That is what I was going to get but my psp is better and emulates more systems. To be precise the psp emulates. amiga 500, amstrad cpc, apple II, atari, bbc micro, capcom cps, capcom cps2, chip 8, colecovision, commodore 64, gameboy, gameboy color, gameboy advance,hp48, intellivision, mame, macintosh, mgt sam coupe, msx, neo-geo, nintendo 64, nes, odyssey, pc-9801, playstation, scumm, megadrive,master system,snes,ti-92, tg-16, vectrex, wonderswan, x86, yabasic,zx spectrum and zx81 sinclair. Lets not forget about all the damn good homebrew too. Alot of poor software sales indeed, half the people that own these systems pirate the games. There are only a few good titles but they look and play amazing. With all of the killer options the psp beats anything hands down. Software will come in time, if not I still have the best handheld emulator bar none.

I own UGnG, but have no PSP.

As for the PSP turnaround, it will only happen if they get the PS3 <> PSP interactivity done well. If they do, it stands a chance.

Yeah, UGnG is very good. Portable Ops looks very good too. However, at this point, I have no plans to buy a PSP. I love my DS Lite. Plus, I need the cash to waste on a PS3 instead.

Same here...but that still puts it ahead of my Gamecube, and I don't regret buying that, so I'm fine here, too. But yeah, despite having a few really great games, it gets less play than my GBA or NGPC. That shouldn't happen.

Looking forward to Portable Ops, though.

Do you have the sales figures for the DS? If the GBA is outselling the PSP right now (which I find amazing), I would like to see how badly the DS is kicking its ass.

I had high hopes for the PSP myself. This just goes to show that looks are not everything. Sony did not make $1 of profit on the PSP, and I cannot imagine how much of a loss they took. Nintendo's marketing department really deserves an award here because from this time 2005 until now, they have taken the phat DS, a system which everyone blew off, and made it into the huge success which is now the DS lite. This is thanks to its strategy of marketing to different demographics and keeping games simple and original. It is this strategy that makes me confident that the Wii is going to perform extremely well.

Yeah, but the PSP is still one sechsay piece of kit. It just a shame that a good deal of it's potential is being wasted.
I mean the DS is the shiz & all but there are enough good games on the PSP for me to justify owning one & loving it.

I think the psp is a great piece of hardware personally. But I tend to disagree with you on the compatibility issue. To me its just an add on feature. Just like the camera or the umd movies. I dont see this making a difference. Just my opinion though.

It's like the classic VHS Vs Beta argument.

The underpowered system gets all the killer apps, while the sexy, high powered system doesn't have great material on it to match.

It's a damn shame everything on PSP is shovelware. IF they had some killer apps on the PSP, it could be a strong competitor.
