Picked one up knowing it was prolly busted.

Initially, it would go to the menu screen, but it would not have the dancing logo's and midi in the background.

i opened it up, and reconnected the ribbon cable from the main board to the cd unit.

after i did that, i got the dancing logo's and backgorund music at the menu screen.

My main problem now, is the cdunit itself doesnt respond. The laser doesnt move, the cd motor doesnt move, the tray doesnt move.

So is there some sort of fuse, diode, capacitor, that i can check on the cd portion of the internals?

trying to ressurect this guy, any help wold be appreciated.

shot in the dark. try checking the laser eye lens, nothing will move if its scratched or has a tiny crack. shine a light on it and look closely the scratch could be as tiny as a hair. make sure the gears are lubed and allow the laser to move freely.

yeah, i know 2 groups that will do repairs, i wanted to see if i could make progress. I'm just happy i get the dancing logo's with the music. The rest i can emulate.

I'll scope that laser, i've been working in moderately lit room, so i couldnt tell. I used some dust free wipes to clean it. This puppy is totally lubed up too.
