Anyone play "Skins Game"? 1992 arcade golf game... can you say NTM"1"?

I saw a PCB called "Skins Game" and noted it was made by Irem. Irem branched off into Nazca, and made Neo Turfmasters. I wondered how closely related the games were (in terms of gameplay, as well as who made them). I checked KLOV for some pics, and sure enough... I can see some pretty striking similarities. "Technician", anyone? And how about the art style used for their facial expressions?

Has anyone played this game? Impressions? It does have something that I've heard people would have liked to see in NTM - 4 player tourny. I think it looks worthy of a purchase.

*Noticed this title was also released as an SNES game.

Before you ask why it's in the neo 16 bit section, that's because it's not about the neo directly to go into general discussion, but it's not way out of bounds enough to be in unrelated.

Yes, actually, I use to play it at a bowling alley in Tampa. It is deffinetly Turfmasters 1, no doubt about it. In some respects it is actually a lot cooler of a game, less arcade like... but it also is no where near as fun as NTM. The graphics are very similar, there are even cool animations and reflections in the water hazards! The voice is not up to par with the Neo wink but it works well in the game.

The biggest difference is the control. You have four or so tab-able areas at the bottom of the screen. That is for club, direction, stance, and power I believe. You need to press B to tab between these, then you adjust with the stick. It is a little awkward at first, but you get use to it fast. Once you are all ready (or if you are happy with the defaults) you press A and the hit metter comes up. This determines how you hit the ball, not how powerful your swing is... it is sort of like the high/low meter in NTM. The one cool feature is the courses, they seem more realistic. And when your golfer does bad on a hole, he walks... head slumped to the next hole. That is something I wish they had in NTM.

There are only two courses, America and Great Brittan I believe, but there are tons of modes of play... basically 1p through 4p stroke and tournement play. I never got very far in this game, I really sucked at it, but it was fun... and there is not even a question here, it is turf masters!
