Will a degauss tool fix this?

It's kind of hard to see, but there's a blue-ish discoloration about a third of the way down the left side of the crt (It starts about the second line down the wall, and runs to just over the forth line on the Cosmic Smash screen). The monitor has a built in degauss function, but it doesn't fix the blue discoloration. Do you think a degauss tool will fix this?

Will any of these tools work? Which one would be best?

discolouration on a crt can be caused by an electric field from other surrounding devices and a degause won't fix that.
Have you tried moving the setup to another location and then degausing?

This happend to my cab until I moved it away from the wall it was facing.

Well, there's nothing on the left side of the screen (it's kind of out in the middle of the floor), but a rear projection tv is about 1.5ft to the right of the monitor.

Could it have been caused by moving the screen? It had about 1.5 hour ride home last weekend...

Sometimes when I've moved my cab around the house I've noticed that sometimes there is quite a big patch of discolouration on the CRT but a degause fixes that.
Once or twice I've had to do a degause, turn off turn back on and then degause again to get rid of it totally.

put it somewhere away from any walls/tv's ect and then degause, there doesn't seem to be anything in the wall behind my cab but it affects it. :conf:

I'll check it out here in a minute.

Maybe the wiring in the wall is messing with the crt?

I moved it out further into the middle of the room and I still can't get the discoloration to go away.

I've read the other degaussing threads here and it looks like a degauss tool might work, but first I'll try using an electric drill.

The drill actually does work! YAY!

There's still a faint blue tint in the area, but the drill died on me so I'll have to continue when it charges back up.

yeah Im curious to hear more to about the drill. I have heard using a simple magnet and moving it in small circles as you back away from the screen. Something similar?

Well, take the bit out first. :D

The drill creates a large enough electromagnetic field to disturb the crt's, and allow you to correct smooth out imperfections. Just take the side of the drill and move it around the discoloration until it disappears. Everyone says to do it in circles, but it doesn't really have to be circles imo, just make sure you don't hold it in one point too long.

This might take a while depending on the strength of the drill, but I promise it does work.

What's strange about my monitor is, when I got the discoloration to go away and hit the degauss button, the blue mark came back... Not really sure what that means, but I'll make sure to not degauss in once I fix the discoloration. :annoyed:
