Hey guys - just wondered if anyone can give me an unbiased un fanboy like opinion of which system I should go with. Please take all aspects into consideration - fun factor, library, graphics, gameplay - nostalgia, emulation, and the systems future - from my understanding the psp has wifi at all times, you can access the internet and listen to mp3s and watch umds and is a great system for emulation but the library for ds and first party support is much better. so clue me in...also if anyone can explain what i need to do with the psp to prepare it for emulation and what type of emulators are available for it? is everything stored opn a umd or is it placed on memory sticks??? i dont get it...thanks in advance

i wanna run tecmo super bowl and baseball stars pro on it....

For library of legiitimate games, DS for sure. In my opinion, DS Lite is built better than PSP as well. Thus, making it more portable to me. DS just owns, but the homebrew aspect of it quite simply isn't as developed as PSP's and probably never will be. There are plenty of reasons to own both systems.

For emulation, PSP by far. For that, you need a PSP that has firmware version 1.0 or 1.50. This is very important. Everything is stored on the memory stick, except the firmware, which is on the system. On my PSP currently, I have NES, SNES, PC Engine Hu and CD, Neo Geo (!), CPS I and CPS II emulators. Getting the emulators is the easy part. Getting a 1.5 PSP has become an easier thing to do, but can still be difficult. If you want, I'll walk you through all that stuff if you decide to go for a PSP. Just PM me if you do.

If you like Nintendo then get a DS. Or if you are bored pressing buttons.

If you can live without Nintendo's games get a PSP.

Honestly, the DS has the better third party support currently as people in Japan are buying them like hotcakes.

The PSP is far from done though. Developers seem to finally be realizing people don't want PS2 ports all the time.

DS could probably be said to have the edge in Fun Factor.
Again, Library is a toss up. Depends on what you like or do not like to play.
PSP obviously has superior graphics.
Not sure what you mean by Nostalgia. PSP has a lot of old school compilations already and more coming in the future.
PSP is great for Emulation as long as you can get the proper firmware PSP.
Both handhelds will be around for a while. No real clue on whats coming up past this fall though.

In case you're wondering I have a PSP and I love it. Like all Nintendo handhelds I will own one for a short time. Once I am done with the Pokemon games I'll rid myself of it. That's just me though.

The DS has twice as many screens as the PSP.
Obviously that counts for something.

Sure if you ignore the PSP resolution is many times better then the DS.

Actualy psp on it's side gives a 272x480 resolution. That is bigger then ds two screens together (256x192 per screen, together verticaly = 256x384).

anyways meh. I say own both. Can never go wrong there.

It all boils down to what 'fun' means to you.

If you're looking to take your current-gen gaming on the go,then the PSP just might be what you're looking for. If you're into the more mainstream franchises like Madden,NBA Live,GTA,etc. then look no further. There's also a good amount of Retro stuff and remakes available as well (Megaman,Ghost'n Goblins,SFA3,Capcom/Namco/Midway retro collections). Regardless of what the future may hold for the PSP,the emulation aspect of the system is well worth the price of admission alone. Think of it as a portable modded X-Box.

If you prefer gaming in short bursts, then I'd suggest getting a DS. There are tons of neat pick-up-and-play games available for it. I especially enjoy games like Meteos,Ouendan,Metroid Prime Pinball,Zoo Keeper, and Feel the Magic.

I like both systems for what they are,and I'd be hard pressed if I didn't own them both.

I've owned both, played the shit out of both and kept my psp.

Monster Hunter Freedom
Bleach HTS: 3
Valkrie Profile
Alpha 3 MAX
Guilty Gear games
upcoming Metal Slug and Power Stone and Spectral vs. Generation
Armored Core
capcom classic remixed (captain commando and strider and street fighter 1 ftw!)

there's more, but those are my current highlights.

Exactly, I also owned both at one point. Emulation is cool, especially now with cps2 emulation. Right now both systems on a role.

IMO there's more stuff you can do with the psp, you can mess around with it so much.
