Sim City Set for DS
The original Sim goes dual screened this Winter.
by IGN Staff

August 30, 2006 - Electronic Arts may not be known for making major game announcements over in Japan, but here's one for you: Sim City DS! That's right! The original Sim is set for DS release through Electronic Arts, and the latest issue of Famitsu is home to first details.

Sim City DS is based on the PC Sim City 3000. This isn't just a port, though, as the game features full stylus-based controls, mini games and a new adviser character who helps you out when designing your city.

The DS title includes three main modes of play: Build a New City, Save the City and Sister City. In Build a New City, you start a city from scratch. Save the City mode puts you in a city located somewhere in Japan and has you clear missions involving fixing traffic and other problems. The Sisters City mode lets you chat with other players and trade "landmarks."

We're not sure why Sim City DS was announced in Famitsu, but we hope it will also see official announcement closer to home, as a stylus-based Sim game is just what the DS needs. Sim City DS is set for Winter release in Japan.

Cool. I always held hope for a Sim City 4 release on the last generation of systems; no dice. But a watered-down port for the DS? Very exciting.

Sold.

Thanks kernow !

That s exactly the kind of software i think the DS should focus on :)

Now, on my wishlist:

Constructor
Roller Coaster Tycoon
Transport Tycoon Deluxe (i love the PSP port of openTTC, but it would be better with a stylus)
Starcraft

If Starcraft were to be released, coupled with PSU, my social life would come to a stand still.

Another game that puts the DS ahead of the PSP. Poor PSP. :crying:

If it was SimCity 2000, I'd be sold. But 3000? Aside from the better graphics, the game at the core sucked ass. Horrible interface, and _way_ more micro-managing than 2K.
If they fix the interface, it might be decent, and there's a lot of possibilities for it, but it's definitely going to be played before I'm paying for it.

Wish it would have been Sim City 4 so that you could share demand bars with neighbor cities.....Nevertheless, DS is on a roll and I am running into the same problem this year as last year; too many good games coming out at the same time, and not enough time to play them.

The DS is turning out to be my favorite handheld of all time. If Wii holds true to its promise to bring out just an innovative and fun stuff as the DS, the Big N just might have enough to take down (at least challenge) the Playstation empire. 2006 has been one hell of a year for Nintendo.

I mastered 2k. No seriously, I wish I could get the masterpieces I made on my old 486 (all the disk drives broke) and show you (and the y2K bug fucked up its date).

I had a gorgeous town of 80k with an average land value of $350k (you had to read the graph to actually see it since the regular cursor would max out at $256). You probably came to the same realization I did that cities in 2k didn't require water systems.

I also was obsessed with teh SCURK

I never had the same amount of obsessive "nothing to do in HS when you're under 16" time with 3k and never really got to get as good a comparison.

Still, I'm there!

Heh, this sub-forum is actually worth something :smirk:
