I paid aaronlewis last Wednesday morning for Metal Slug 3, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Last Blade 2, and Samurai Showdown 4. All loose MVS carts - Slug 3 and Last Blade 2 are English carts, MOTW and SS4 are Japanese carts.

Aaron seems like a nice guy to deal with - it does seem like he's doing a ton of deals at once though.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions - he's a genuinely nice guy and just seems like he's doing a lot at once. If I receive my carts in the next day or two, it's still within a reasonable time frame. What exactly is going on at the post office? Even when I went to check my DC # it said some weird crap that I've never heard. Usually when I send it off, later that night I can check and it'll say "item as been accepted, blah blah". This is what I got:


The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper or shipping partner on July 20, 2003 to expect your package for mailing. Status is updated every evening. Please check again later. WTF does that mean? I've never seen that when I've put in a DC #.

It's funny that I had to ask 3 times what the phone number was to your post office and the guy's name who's supposed to be doing this while the pm just stayed there marked "read" and you didn't reply. You finally answer me saying "sorry can't give the guy's name out it might jeapordize what's going on here". Good, I send another message telling you it's cool, just give me the phone number to your post office.

Here's my too good to be true story, please read it and bare with me, it's good:

As you may or may not know, I've had a "I want an ENG MVS LB2 cart or kit" in my sig for a LONG ass time (8 months). Sunday morning, out of the blue, aaronlewis sends me an email saying he's got an LB2 complete kit (with matching serial numbers, which didn't strike me as odd at first... I'll explain later on for those that don't know) he wants to sell. He wants $300 for it. Unfortunately I'm getting another car, JUST bought a HNG64 and 4 games from Vektorlogic and had to buy another surround system, along with $2000 I've spent getting my other car fixed over the last 2.5 months. No money for a $300 cart and I ask if he'll hold it until end of Sept. Then I get "why don't we trade?" I send him a list of games I wouldn't mind parting with and we make a deal on (please bare with me):

Sega CD Unit (top loader)
Sega Genesis
2- 3 Button Controllers
Power Adapter for Genesis
Power Adapter for Sega CD
RF Unit (I don't have the RCA/Composite connector)
Final Fight CD (just game and a case, no manual, case cracked)

So all in all, you could probably get all that stuff for $100 on eBay, $150 TOPS. $150 trade for a pretty rare cart? SOunded too good to be true, but after reading the posts on people making deals with him, and them sounding like good deals, I said it couldn't be that bad to try. He says "I'll ship tomorrow." I tell him I'll ship tomorrow as well. He also told me he was doing this after checking my references. THis struck me as odd, because he doesn't know my eBay ID and I've never made a trade deal on the boards, only bought a couple of games form some members, whose names I never told him. Oh well, I let it go.

As I was laying in bed, thinking about the LB2 kit, the matching serial numbers on the box and cart hit me. When SNK shipped the LB2 ENG carts, there was some mix up and most, if not all, carts were placed in a box that was 1 number higher than what was on the cart. Unless he found a loose ENG cart and a loose ENG cart box with matching numbers, it wasn't possible. For $150 worth of stuff, for a kit, even without matching serials, worth quite a bit more, I figured, why not give it a try?

Also Sunday evening he offers to trade for my DC and Saturn games I wouldn't mind parting with. First he offers me an MVS slug 3, which I already have, so I decline. He then offers me Matrimelee (direct paste from PM):

the matrimelee is mint never opened got it from the neo store so it cost me bout 400$ for it. i will look at the games and get back to you might take about 5 mins. brb (he was going to look at my games list I sent)

He spent $400 on this cart? And he wants to trade for, at the most, $200 worth of DC/Saturn games? I say that's a hell of a deal. I say the deal will go through, assuming the first deal goes through (I was trying to play it safe, I was feeling really skeptical and uneasy about the whole deal at this point). He says he understands and says as long as everything is cool with the first deal, the second deal will go through. Cool.

So Monday during my lunch break I go to the Mail Depot where my friend Steve works. He packs it all up and I ship it via FedEx ground with a tracking number and all. Get back to work and send aaronlewis the FedEx tracking number (041856010031988) and politely ask for my tracking number. The message goes read and I don't get a reply. Now I'm feeling really funny. I wait a few hours and ask him if he sent my game yet, this is the PM reply I get:

This whole thing feels like the FiledWithFurySS deal ForeverSublime had go wrong. You know, where FS sent FWFSS a Neo, FWFSS sent away to have the system modded BEFORE he sent the promised stuff to FS and when FS got the stuff, it wasn't in the condition FWFSS promised and FS wanted his Neo back (rightfully so, I might add). Well, FWFSS wouldn't hear of it, since he paid $150 to have the system modded, FS now owed him $150 and return shipping to cover his expenses, even though it was CLEARLY FWFSS fault the entire time. It DID get worked out to both parties satisfaction, but it took a lot of work to get FWFSS to see the sense in it.

My whole take on the situation? aaronlewis had too many deals going on, and what was happening is persons A B C and D where trading games U, V,W,X,Y,Z. He wanted games V, Y and Z and was planning to trade games U, W and X with people A B C and D, even though he didn't have them in his possession. What he is doing now is attempting to buy time to receive all of our stuff, so that he can make the deals right. He doesn't have the stuff in his possession, so he needs to buy time for it to arrive. That's just my opinion though.

Part of what happened to aaron is that people like me wouldn't let up asking for a tracking number and shit. I told him I was feeling uneasy about this trade, and he kept assuring me all was good. Well, after PMing me repeatedly, I finally got the "USPS fucked with my stuff" message.

I think it was IMPOSSIBLE for him to find an LB2 kit in 8 hours... fuck, I haven't been able to find one for sale for 8 FUCKING MONTHS, and THAT is part of why his house of cards started to collapse.

Because of this "Trade," I ask that no one on the board EVER ask me to trade for ANYTHING unless you are within driving distance and will PERSONALLY deliver the goods, or can have the goods delivered through a 3rd party. I never planned on trading anything over the 'net, and this is precisely the reason.

I'm glad my stuff is being returned to me. This whole thing taught me a lesson that I had thought I already knew.

I honestly hope everything works out with everyone. If given the time to receive all of your stuff, aaronlewis can probably make it all OK.

If aaron really did send me an LB2 kit and it arrives, I will already have my Sega CD/Genesis and games boxed and ready to go. I will definitely make my end of the trade.

UPDATE:

I just spoke with Aaron on the phone concerning our trade. He has reassured me that my gamecube package that I sent him will be mail back to me tomorrow. Aaron is to PM/ Email me with the tracking number tomorrow once he gets back from UPS.

I will keep everyone posted on how this turns out.

Just want to let you guys know that my conversation with Aaron went well. Aaron stuck by his story and seemed pretty upset about this whole ordeal. I advised him that he needs to contact all the forum members that he has dealings with by phone and work this situation out. Aaron seemed like a honest guy over the phone and i let him know that but I also let him know he still has my package and he has to understand my frustration as well as other forum members. I am hoping that after talking with Aaron that my package arrives back to me safely and that Aaron does the right thing and makes good on his promises with me and other forum members.

Two TG-16 units (one w/ box), A CD Add-on, System Card 3.0, Controllers, and a boxed Turbo Tap. I threw in some other TG16 stuff w/ it that I found when I was boxing it up.

That was my deal.

I asked for him to send his stuff first, as he had PM'd me about the package w/ a trade offer.

He refused and I shipped on Monday. We were supposed to send at the same time, last thursday, but I had taken a few extra days to get all the stuff together and put the extras in. Tried to keep in communication w/ him, but I'll admit, I could've done better. That's my fault. I've done a lot deals on the forums and I'll admit this one was not my best.

I'm not going to be judgemental just yet. I was supposed to get the games by today and they have not gotten here. I'm hoping against hope that they arrive tomorrow.

I asked for a tracking number a few times and it was ignored in conversation. I have sent the stuff Insured w/ Tracking to him before this all came out... hours before it came out yesterday.

The only reason I agreed to a same time send was because of some good references on the forum. As many of you know that I deal w/ I usually ask the buyer or person proposing the trade to send first. If I'm the buyer/trader, I send first.

If anyone wants some information about the ongoing dealiings or a possible recourse, I strongly encourage you to PM me. I have been conversing with SonGohan through PM and we both have a good amount of information to help others out.

@aaronlewis. For my personal records, I'd like to have the tracking number. Could you please furnish that to me? I'm not trying to call you out in the open, but please forward that to me. I've sent you a list of things you should do and some advice for dealing with this legally and expediting recovery of your packages. Whether I did that in vain or not, I don't know. I hope for your sake that your story is true and you recover your items. If not, you have committed mail fraud by the nature of which you have conducted your dealings and you are in SERIOUS trouble. I won't get into specifics, but consider that fact.

Like I said, I really like to think that everyone is good natured and this is a huge problem that was out of control. I hope for all of us this comes to a positive conclusion soon.

I gave him some advice on what to do and whose names to get. There should/is a postal investigator assigned to the case. Should that name be posted, I strongly encourage everyone to call him and voice your concern/disdain. The more people call, the better... they want you out of their hair ASAP. Group effort will work here, guys.

I also advised him to post up any and all tracking numbers in public, so everyone can have a copy of their respective shipment. I gave him a list of stuff to ask for and what to do. Hopefully, following this.. everyone can make out in the end.

He doesn't seem like a bad guy and if he's sincere, this just seems like a bad situation gone awry. I won't make a call on this guy just yet, but I don't know of many scammers who offer to call you to sort things out. Kudos to him for stepping up to the plate here.

GAMEFAN Hate to be the one to tell you this, but you're fucked. He'll probably be returning your stuff to you. I sent my package out yesterday and if you read my post (a big ass one), I had to constantly harass him to send mine as he promised. Well, after probably 8 PMs back and forth, I get the PM from him saying something happened at the post office... even though he claimed he was shipping it via FedEx (well actually, it went UPS, USPS then FedEx).

I also find it VERY hard to believe that the person "stealing packages" targetted aaron. There's no way one person could hijack that much mail (remember, he had 19 deals. He didn't ship everything out on the same day, if he ever actually shipped anything at all). OK, I guess someone COULD hijack all that mail, but really, what's the lieklihood of EVERY time aaron went to the PO the person stole HIS packages? If a person were to steal mail, they wouldn't steal ALL of the mail, only a piece here or there; you're less likely to get caught that way. What's the likelihood of here and there being every aaronlewis package? Slim to none.

I shall now and forever more remain an internet trading virgin.

I am a Postal Employee in Garden Grove, California. If what Aaron is saying is true, that employee was terminated on the spot (Escorted out of the building by Postal Inspectors {in handcuffs}) . Postal Inspectors went to that residence and searched for any stolen items. Which means they had already been watching this person. All items are photographed and inventoried. Once those items have been removed from the residence, they are immediately returned to the owner (if they are still in the box/envelope they were shipped in.)

The bottom line is.....A postal Inspector is assigned to this. There is no secrecy about not being able to give out contact information in regards to "complicating" the actual criminal prosecution. I have personally witnessed this exact thing go on in regards to an employee I knew personally, that was stealing credit cards. If what he says is true, he was given a Postal Inspectors Name and Contact Number. Not to mention the PostMasters name and contact # of the facility he shipped out of.

He (Aaron) should be more than willing to give you this information so that you can verify these happenings for yourself. Be aware, if he tells you he wasn't given contact information, he is a flat out liar. I have been a mail carrier for 10 years and have witnessed this type of event more than once. If anyone needs any further help, PM me and I will ask my Postmaster for any info. He can't stand mail fraud, theft or anything of the likes.

Remember, I am not calling Aaron a theif. I am just pointing out how this procedure works out. He is innocent until proven otherwise. So, if he gives you the information I posted above in the thread, then you know it's the truth.

I'd like to metion that there *is* the possibility that he had good intentions and just got in over his head. Kind of like gambling, you get in debt and just start betting more to cover your losses.

Not that this theory would make it right, but I'm not sure that all the threats and phonecalls to his house are going to get things done any faster or smoother.

Anyway... another member was kind enough to PM me the phone number of the post office in AR and I called them yesterday and had my package re-routed (hopefully). I think I'm ok as mine had a delivery confirmation number that they could reference. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra $1.30 when you ship USPS for DC.

There are 3 things I would recommend;

1) If you have sent packages and you think they are still en route - call the post office. Here is the Post Office info:

The person at the post office you want to speak with is Audrey. VERY Nice and helpful lady. She's the one me and SonGohan spoke to yesterday. If she's not available or she's very cool and helps you out, speak the Dale Hudson (female). Let her know how helpful Audrey has been.

Like I said, he sounded genuinely freaked out on the phone when I spoke to him, so maybe he's trying. Then again, who knows. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

If you have a package en route.. REROUTE it and play it safe. If you still want his goods when he gets it all back, have him send first.

Call today and ask to speak to the postal investigator at the office. See if he has any information. I will be doing that today to get some more information. If I hear anything, I will let you all know. Two things to keep in mind, they may not tell you because of the nature of the crime. You do have a legal interest in this, as it's YOUR stuff that got swiped, so you have a vested interest in the case.

If this is all a sham, well, that will be your litmus test.

Noting that, the way it was executed leaves him in quite a heap of trouble as the information he used from the Post Office would be considerd fraudulent use. I can't tell you how serious Mail Fraud is and what the consequences are.

Guys/gals who were or think they are being ripped off. you need to start a small little team. 1 person needs to coordinate.

sounds stupid? kind of.. but do it fast. Get ALL your scamming information together. arrange it by person.. and what they were scammed for and by what amount.

NExt, everyone who was scammed needs to file reports in the same place. Try to do this collectively with the post office.

Try this collectively with the FBI. seriously. Get 1 person to contact these places.

Do it fast before 1 month comes along.
