Third-party support is essential for the life span of any gaming product, so when you have a major publisher such as Electronic Arts calling you out, you better listen. EA executive VP and COO of worldwide studios David Gardner recently told MCV that Sony better get their act together with the PSP.

"I don't think Sony can afford to sit back. I think they still have things they can do with the price and performance of the machine-- things that they need to address."

Gardner points to the success of the DS as being about fun and accessibility, not about pure technical supremacy.

"There's no doubt that EA has historically bet more on PSP. I think we were excited by the technology, but the consumers have proven that actually what they want is fun. ... EA is putting more effort behind DS games -- and creative ones that really take advantage of the hardware."

And so, the bad press train keeps rolling for Sony.

It would probably help if EA released something other than ports for the PSP. :(

Yup and theyre calling out Sony, fucking dicktwats! Yet they have a team coming up with "creative" titles for the DS. I have to give props to Nintendo though, they've managed to dominate the handheld market with inferior hardware since 1989 (Atari Lynx).

This man speaks the truth.
Who cares about EA and what they offer..
the only game I have is Madden from them...and I have no plans to buy anything else...
So who cares about them dropping...Let it be..

ditto on the DS part, it's still a pretty fun system and I spend hours playing all those mini games on the Mario games and Castlevania is the Sh*tzn*t

Its not the games so much but the power that they have in the industry, not to mention they have been a huge Sony supporter in every platform. They basically set the standard and since they are a super publisher it sets the mode for the other smaller publishers like Ubisoft. Once the big guys start to go. So will the rest abeit slowly all playing follow the leader.

This is comparable to walmart dropping the UMD movies. Target was next to go. etc.

So, what the guy is saying is that we, the consumer, no longer want unfun games, therefor all EA games were not fun to play. :smirk:

This is the truth.

The DS games that EA has released (so far) have been some of the biggest turds out there. EA took popular franchises shit on them and then squeezed them on to a DS cart.

I really don't care if EA decides to work on better games that take advantage of the DS. They should have done this from the start.

The bottom line is, EA was not putting out great stuff for either the PSP or DS.

They would be idiotic for dropping support of the PSP. They are just upset no one wants to buy their horrible ports.

Its coming around to slap them in the face. The effort that they have been putting out is lazy at best. They have all these marketing tactics with the corporations pushing the products that they sell and they got lazy over the yrs and then just relied on there massive distribution to virtually every store in the country. Consumers are stupid initially but when there are minimal inprovements they do eventually learn. I think the last EA game I bought was the Olympic hockey game for genesis. Game was awesome and had a much faster pace then the other hockey games for the genesis at the time.

Well. In there defence I think they thought sony had the better system. Which was going to guarentee more sales because of the greater installed base. But when it comes right down to it. Who is buying the system. Casual gamers at best. Most of the time I see some black guy using the thing. Putting it up to his ear like a mini radio blasting hiphop through the small speakers. Or I recognize the headphones as they are dif from the ipod headphones and all they are doing is listening to music. Or some other business man sitting there playing a EA game like soccer or some FPS they dont understand. These people arent gamers and will lose interest in the machine.

When the ds lite launched I remember sitting outside with a ton of actual gamers and I whipped all there asses in mario kart. But got my hand handed to me in jump superstars as I never played it before. There really is a dif demographic when comparing the two systems.

Im willing to bet the psp has a game to hardware ratio of 1 to 1 or 2 to 1 afterwhich the games werent touched again. Where as the ds ratio is at least 4 to 1. I know I have about 18 ds games myself.

And come to think of it. Nintendo makes games to sell hardware with everybody else supporting the system.

Sony just makes hardware for the most part. And 3rd parties make games to meet there bottomline. There isnt any specialized mechanics going on here to sell the systems which is basically not getting a specialized userbase of hardcore users to identify the system properly.

Sega had sonic the hedgehog back in the day and that sold systems. Nintendo has a whole slew of characters to sell systems. Playstation had crash and a dedicated team to identify the system. PS2 just had a jump on the xbox but still had alot of drive. PSP and PS3 are just losing touch with not only themselves but with what makes a system great. Well see where it goes from here on.

Its amazing how upset the PSP fanboys get with news like this. Seriously, the PSP might be a decent handheld, but its slowly dying, get over it.

On a side note, EA does make shit.

I hate EA

but I agree

if the price went down

if the battery performed better

I think I'd have one by now

I think Sony knows what it has to do

and I think we'll see a PSP "lite" soon here

My PSP has been warped into a personal emulation box.

The truth is that Sony has been shooting for something to big, and of course it always comes up to small. The bad choices they made in their consumer electronics divisions are now starting to trickle into the Playstation brand and hurt it's market as well.

YOu'd think they would have learned.

Unless I see one or someone mentions it, I honestly completely forget the PSP exist. The same can be said for EA games.

::looks at the dozen psp games sitting on his shelf:: Nope, not one EA game, therefore this news means shit to me.

Nintendo fanboys can crusade on all they want about how the PSP is going to die, I'm going to sit back and play the games, and I don't mean the r0mZ.

Honestly they are just upset no one wants to buy their horrible ports. Last numbers I saw only 3 titles have sold atleast million copies in the U.S.: Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories , Ridge Racer, and Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee. Notice anything? Not one of those crappy Madden/Live/NCAA ports. This is where their beef comes from. Nothing more, nothing less.

They don't understand it isn't Sony's problem no one wants their games. They still selling 'em for $49? That is even more ridciulous. The hardware is selling. Games are beginning to sell more (Tekken seems to be doing pretty well right now.)

Is Sony guilty? Yes they are. We should be using all of the processor by now. Yeah another price drop would be nice and one is even rumored. It would also be nice if they could turn down some of these games down without stepping on a developers toes.

I suppose mascots matter in the Portable world...but honestly not in the console market much anymore.

Is the PSP dead or dying? Nah, far from it right now. If things don't pick up this Holiday season then the fat lady may start singing. She isn't right now, not with some of these titles that will be coming.

I mean truthfully, I just bought a PSP two weeks ago after owning a DS and shunning the PSP completely. I don't emulate because I don't want to accidently turn it into a brick, but honestly there are a lot of really good reasons to own a PSP.

-Monster Hunter Freedom
-Capcom Classics Remixed (captain commando and strider anyone?)
-Alpha 3 MAX
-Darkstalkers The Chaos Tower
-Lumines
-Ape Escape
-Tekken: DR (even if you don't like Tekken)
-VP: Lenneth and a whole slew of great RPGs, ports and non ports alike.
-Megaman Powered Up
-Megaman Maverick Hunter

there are good import reasons too (no region code on a psp either):
-GGXX: Reload
-Naruto: Narutimatte Portable
-Bleach: HEAT THE SOUL 3
-Megaman FUCKING Legends

There are also lots of good things coming up:
Metal Slug Collection
Spectral vs. Generation
FF7 Last Order
Guilty Gear Judgement
etc. etc. etc. etc.

You get my point?

In addition, it plays MP4 video, MP3 sound, and JPG images.

I don't know, it was worth the $185 i paid. And I got
-the system
-the usb cord
-power supply
-GGXX reload
-512 mb card
-screen protector

Yeah boyyyyeeeeee.

Plus I work at a Blockbuster so I can just pop in whatever games we have there and play for free and then rent them if I like them. Or buy them at a discount price.
