So I assume that noboy here purchased this item years ago...I wonder if it can be considered a true collectors' piece or a mere waste of money.

id I do recall it is a waste of money. Fairly expensive. Are you talking about the one that comes in the shiny silver DVD cases. They are still on ebay occasionally.

Waste of money,

I have them and only watched them once, nicely put together tho and well packaged.

Theres alot of interviews and you do get to see most of the games but sadly its all in japanese, if you can understand japanese then its well worth the expense.

I'm not to sure but I think one of the interviews (and its long) is with the big man himself E. Kawasaki

Yes, it's the silver case edition, I think it's the only one ever released.
And I can't speak or understand japanese...I'll save my money...err I mean, I'll buy some other SNK related items....

Speaking of which....I can vaguely remember an official SNK audio cd boxset, very limited edition, is it possible ?

I don't know of a SNK audio set.Unless you mean the KOF box set. It has all the OST cd's from 94-02, and a DVD. You can get it for about $150 at gamemusic.com. It's well worth it(at least to me)

Here's the table of contents;

CD1
SNK Beginnings
A brief history of SNK in the arcade business with some staff commentaries.

Neo-Geo Staff Interviews, Part 1
Staffs describe about the games and the machines that they've developed.

Neo-Geo Arcade Chronicle, Part 1
Combined short in-game footages of arcade games that SNK developed.

KOF 2001 Tournament Final
King of Fighters 2k1 tournament: Korea (Chae Dong-Hoon) vs. Japan (Yamakawa Manabu -- Holy Hell, this guy's name has a serious issue with vowel "A"). The Korean guy wipes the floor with the Japanese guy with score of 3:1.

CD2
Neo-Geo Roundtable Discussions
Four SNK staffs sit around two coffee tables inside a room filled with MVS machines and start to... Talk. They also mentioned the SNKP's slow transition into 3D games.

Interviews Part 2
More commentaries about the KoF games, as well as some commentaries by staffs from EOLITH, a Korean company that co-developed KoF2k1.

Arcade Chronicle Part 2
More short in-game footages from various Neo Geo arcade games.

So, is the package really worth $100+? If you understand Japanese, I suppose it is. But if you don't know apeshit about moonspeak, then it's not since the whole thing is really about interviews and commentaries, with the exception of Arcade Chronicles.

I guess that makes right about now a good time to start brushing up on Japanese :chimp:
