Umm... Is my PSP dead?

I've never had any trouble with my PSP until today, and I also don't use it often so it isn't "abused" at all. It's one of the good launch Japanese ones with the mobo made by Hitachi and the display by Sharp.

So today I get a box in the mail from Play-Asia with an Asia copy of Ultimate Ghosts n' Goblins which I have been very excited about since it was first announced. I take my PSP out of a drawer, put the game in, and....nothing. I found this to be strange because I actually charged it a few weeks ago and havn't played it.

So I figure I must have accidently left it in sleep mode or something of the sort and must have drained the battery. I dig out my AC and plug it in and turn on my PSP and I see the Glorious sunrise known as the Capcom logo screen and.....

The system died. It won't get any power with the AC plugged in, I don't even get the little orange light showing that it's charging. Does this sound like I need a new main battery, AC adapter or something much worse? :crying:

Even if your battery had died, the PSP should power with the AC Adaptor plugged in... unless the AC Adaptor doesn't work, there's no way of telling unless you try another AC Adaptor. If it's not the adaptor then it sounds like your PSP went to sleep with the fishes. Time to work that Sony warranty me thinks.

Yeah...

That's what I was worried about...

Can somebody verify that for me 100%? It would be a huge help to me if someone could remove their battery and plug in their AC adapter to see if their unit will power up. :(

As you need to upgrade the PSP to 2.6 in order to play UGnG, the system will check the battery automatically when you first try to play. The battery in the one I am using was 100% dead when I first tried to play, but the system still powered on just fine with the charger attached.

Thank you very much for taking the time to help me. I just found that my unit powers on without the battery in it! :buttrock:

I figured there wouldn't be any difference between having a dead battery in the unit or not. Oh well, I've been eyeing that extended battery for awhile but couldn't justify the purchase before.

Ugh.

The PSP I am borrowing is growing on me (as a system itself), but at the same time there are quite a few drawbacks with it. I have already decided that I'm not buying a first generation one, but am going to wait for the inevitable version 2 and get that.

It's my AC adapter. I've never had an AC fry before, especially one that's been rarely used. I'll go cheap with my replacement, it's not like Pelican can do a shittier job than Sony.
