I'm planning to buy a new Famicom, my old one (SNES-style Famicom clone) got fried yesterday and i can't afford importing one from japan right now.

The Generation NEX seems a solid choice but somehow it didn't feel right, so is there anything particularly good about this remade ?

And if not, is there any other good choices ?

Dont buy a clone, just pay the extra 10-20 bucks on the real deal with 100% compatibility

I'm definitely planning on getting one. It looks great compared to the original NES (much smaller) and there are only like 2 or 3 games that are incompatible that you could possibly care about. There's a list on the Generation NEX website.

While the website lists some as compatible, it doesnt always list small sound or graphics errors. I dont see why you would waste money on a clone when the real thing is cheap. A Famicom > NES adapter can be found in Hogans Alley and other early games for 1-2$, so who cares about 2 slots

It sucks. The sound isn't quite right and there are quite a few games with problems. Save yourself some money and buy an HK Famiclone, or, save up and buy a real NES...

You can import one from Japan Game Stock for about $50. The only thing I would do is to order the A/C adaptor. The audio/video cables are the same as the SNES/N 64/ Gamecube and will will save you a few bucks. Your old NES controllers will also work on the New Famicom. If you want to play your old NES games, then buy an adaptor, for $15 off of Ebay, or just buy an old NES from a pawn shop/ebay. I heard the NEX sucks. It can't play Castlevainia 3 and that's just a crying shame. Stay away from the Famiclones.

I haven't noticed any problems with my Generation NEX......

The picture is slightly better than a toploader but not as good as a toaster.

ok, I own a NEX so heres the deal.

Its badass. I have a shit ton, hundreds of NES games. They all "work". The list on www.playmessiah.com is accurate in terms of what the system does. Some of the games do have graphical errors, some of the music is off or higher pitched, sometimes the music is jacked up and completly different! All in all, it has awesome video output, real stereo audio, 99.7% compatibility, and you can get those badass wireless controllers in the metal lunch box. I do have to say the NES cart shaped manual is sweet too. I give it a 9/10 only cause it cant make french fries

But why sacrifice anything when you can have the real deal for cheaper on a good day, if not the same? If you do like the wireless controllers, I believe they work on the normal NES, no?

NEX...

My in-laws have one...They wanted a NES so I told them to get a NEX..(from local retro-new game store)

The NEX has given them some game compatibility issues and the carts are hard as heck to get in and out of it..
But,
They like it so no complaints..

................
I don't have a NEX,I mainly use a toploader ..................and I refurbish and sell NES Toasters.......

Still,I wanted something for my in-laws that was toploader similar(games go straight in the front of NEX) but didn't cost as much as a toploader and wouldn't fail to work after popping dirty connector game after game in it..
It seems to be easier to get a NEX to play a dirty connector NES game then a Toaster(by from what I see with theirs)
They picked up a Multicart now.....It works fine on the NEX with a little finagling.

A Gamecrazy employee was nice enough to let me put my mind to rest about something.
For those concerned about the NEX's support for those Famicom sound chips (i.e. VRC6, VRC7, Namco106) thought I'd bring this up. Akumajou Densetsu may not work, but otherwise, it does support those chips itself.
I tried my copy of Lagrange Point on it and the music plays fine. Still not sure if there were still any downfalls because the TV we tested it out on wasn't loud enough.
