Hey,

So I was thinking last night (as I was sleeping infact) would it be possible to create an MVS with more than 6 slots? Ofcourse, It would need a custom BIOS and some complicated electronics, but wouldn't it be pretty cool?

And what if it was taken further? With 20, or enough slots for every MVS game created? It would be a huge cabinet, but it would be crazy cool.

Has anyone else every thought of this? Or am I just insane?

+ 1 lol! nah, IDk. I wouldn't even want more than 6. Do you realize how big the PCB would have to be to have 20 slots?

Oh I know it would be huge, just imagine how big it would need to be to house every MVS game :loco:

I stand by it being cool though, would need on big assed cabinet to fit it all in. :buttrock:

Insane. Just get a modded Xbox instead.

isn't a 6 slot a power sucker?

So if you wanted a 20 slot you'd have to turn off everything in your house and play in the dark :loco:

But it could be done?

Im sure the power issue could be sorted out.. like powering down zones when a single game is running. Looks like I have a long term goal :buttrock:

A custom cabinet could always be built, and if the power problem was solved what would stop a 150 slot cabinet from being built....

other than common sense, expense and the insane difficulty. :glee:

I'm having trouble imagining what you would do with such a cabinet. You're just going to give someone in Hong Kong ideas about making a cabinet running MAME with every rom installed.

Why go through all this effort and expense (not to mention the floor space this monstrosity would eat up)? Just get a modded Xbox for cryin' out loud. End of thread.

I'm sure someone was mentioning this before. I think it was a uk member who was hooking up a few 6 slots in a cab.

How about buying a old tape service Silo. (it is a tower with a robotic arm to swap data storage tapes for backups) configuring it to pick up MVS games and have it swap them out. you may have to powercycle the mvs or figure a way to make the board hotswapable. maybe setting a switch to cut power to the slot then turning it back on and reseting the board. then you can have all your MVS games in a dust free no sunlight environment and still be able to play all of them. Although the silos use alot of power as well and are somewhat large :)

I tend to wonder just how practical that would be though. I have trouble w/ certain working w/ each other in my 4 slot, carts as it is. I doubt they'd work w/ even more slots open.

I've seen those before, they're badass legacy hardware.

If it was made to house every single MVS release apart from the "Legend of Success" it would not be so difficult

I guess in theory you could do it, sort of. Maybe not having the select button switch through all of the games, but switch through each 6 slot board. Then just have a power switch for each board. Like 4 power switches. Turn one off, turn another on. You could daisy chain the power in from switch too switch. Then on the other block of the switch have the power out to each jamma harness.

The only big pain would be splicing together all of the jamma connectors to run to the buttons and joysticks. But I don't know if that would be a huge deal using some terminal blocks to keep things neat. So I think it could be done :). Oh. and splicing together the RGB as well.

And of course the possible issue if you forget to turn a switch off before turning the next one on :).

Hey All,

As stupid as it sounds... a tape silo might not be such a stupid idea. Or something using the same principle of an arm that picks up the cartridge and places it in the slot. Perhaps if it was mounted on a rail and it rolled along and could detect the game by some means.. like a RFID tag for example.. getting custom labels for this purpose would fit in nicely with my plans for my collection...

Still shall take up alot of room - but what could be cooler? :buttrock:

I don't understand the hard on people have for multislot mvs boards.

Stop being so lazy and change the damn game.
