This thing's really, amazingly good for what it does. Cost me £17ish on eBay, and it's absolutely perfect for MVS. It's a tiny little PCB (3x5", the width of a JAMMA harness) that slots straight onto the JAMMA edge connector, and has a coin button, ATX power input, SCART video output, 3.5mm minijack sound output, and two Mega Drive control pad sockets.

Now the Mega Drive controller ports are a bit of a problem, since MVS obviously wants 4 buttons. If you have a motherboard with control ports already on it, then you can use those, but there is a problem in that without controllers attacked to the MD ports, things go completely haywire (controller 2 Start button continually pulses). This can be fixed by either leaving two Mega Drive controllers plugged in permanently, or just pulling out the socketed PIC chips that are responsible for the controllers. A definite black mark here, though easily remedied.

Everything else is fantastic though. Video output is clear and crisp and looks fantastic. (Make sure the SCART socket you plug into is wired for RGB, of course). ATX power supplies are easily found and my 300w works happily. All in all it works a treat. I'll take photos when I get the chance, if anyone's interested?

Just bought one of these from Sn00t here on the forums. Very impressed with the image quality, very crisp, colour levels seem to be spot on too. They do have a website http://www.Vogatek.com but its pretty basic, £30 direct from the site but they go for less on ebay, seller id arcade-blazer

Not really perfect for MVS unless you buy a board with built in controller ports, since the supergun is only a 3 button config.

I have to agree with NeoGoaT though, the picture quality was awesome.

This was my second I sold now, will probably get another one day, perfect configs for STV boards.

The picture's RGB, so it's not really a question of NTSC vs PAL - more a question of finding a TV with a SCART input in North America, I would imagine.

oh check this out..I e-mailed the guy from that site asking if they were ever going to make those superguns for U.S. NTSC T.v's and he said. " Yes i would like to make an arcade supergun motherboard with
NTSC output.I'll be working on one soon.' :glee:

The video is the least of your problems since you can easily make an external encoder.
There actually is an external Scart-> Component encoder that would work perfectly.

No such thing. There are some universal TVs that will do PAL, and PAL convertors (I have one), but NTSC TVs do not EVER have SCART.

You need to re-read his post.

He never claimed as such.

That Supergun won't output Composite via the scart lead... ONly RGB.

It's neither NTSC or PAL, it's RGB. (The picture's coming directly off the JAMMA board, so is the regular RGB signal you'll get from any normal JAMMA logic board)

If only it had Neo Geo controller ports, with up to six buttons compatibility, I would buy one.

I maintain that UK superguns are not superguns at all as the main function is supposed to be video conversion (everything else is just twisting wires together).

And next time I'm in Europe, I'm snagging a NTSC/PAL TV with SCART input.

MK 3 BOARD

Hi everyone.

I've just looked at the mk 3 board on ebay and the seller says "The arcade control connectors contain the directions and 4 action buttons. The pcb legend identifies the buttons. 6 button games can be played but the gamer must directly connect the kick buttons from the arcade pcb to his/her arcade controls" is this correct? I was going to make my own with plans online but if this one is ok i might save myself the work lol

There seems to be a mark v out. I'm considering making my own console and this seems entirely the way to go.:) Doesn't mention anything about how many action buttons it has. I've tried emailing the maker but no reply as yet. Will be patient. Anyone else had one of these? Any recomendations/reviews?

there's a switch on it to make it output mono or stereo and another one for the game select so it should be good for multislot boards. the product is fine just expect to wait a while before it actually arrives.

My MKV board finally arrived today. I think he was having a few problems with the first new batch which caused quite a delay on delivery.

However, I've just set up my 2 slot with the Vogatek MK V and it works great. The S-video output is very good, not as good as the RGB SCART output of the MK III / IV but fine. The new Neo stick ports are good too.

I've started a new thread to discuss the new models further.
