Just got it today; like Bobak's review said, I've read that some people either love it or hate it. Haven't played it too much, just about for half an hour, but it seems alright. The character designs and stages so far are pretty plain, and the music is eh...but I like it fine.
I'll get more play time in tonight.

I remember reading back in my EGM '98 Buyer's Guide, the game never got higher than a 4.5 in scores...ever since then, I've wanted to play it.

I'm in the middle, don't love or hate it.

Plays like a less stiff mortal kombat to me. Vs. CPU gets boring quick, but 2p can be really fun.

Game's a masterpeice, the complete package. In the issue from '96 when they reviewed it one of the reviewers said it wasn't worth the $150 price tag.

I've never played Ninja Masters, but its on my list and I'm curious about how it plays. I know you can arm/disarm on the fly, does switching between armed and not greatly affect play, like you can do completely different combos and stuff? Is it pretty violent?

I LOVE Ninja Masters....I think the graphics are awesome..solid, fast, easy to pick up and play...cool visual effects...I agree that it is a masterpiece...one of the best Neo fighters IMO.

its good, not great. egm was right about the value. dont know what its valued now but if its more than that its not worth it. id place it in the same leageu as the WH franchise but a lil better, def not SS or KOF or RBFF caliber, let alone lb, probably the reason the game got a low review cause there was a shitload of games that where better than and are better now.

Ninja Master's will only get better the more you play it and delve into the moves and combo system. Make sure and at least try all the characters before putting it down. In my opinion it's one of ADK's best games, right up there with Twinkle Star Sprites. The graphic presentation and music can be deceptive at first -- there's great gameplay there.

I hate it...that game was soooooooooooo dissappointing. I had higher expectations from the game. That's all I have to say. That game is so sad. :oh_no:

Alright, but not a fighter I'm going out of my way to throw away hours in. It just didn't keep me coming back for more like World Heroes did. Even with all its quirks, I'd still put more time in World Heroes Perfect than this.

It'll appeal to combo freaks who want to bust out combos that involve arming/disarming themselves on the fly, but I'm not big on over elaborant combo systems.

I'll take my simple combos thank you.

I respect the game for what it is, just like most games for the Neo. I must suck though cause in my book Ninja Masters = Ass.

The controls are stiff and clunky. The sprites look like shit. The backgrounds are eh. I suppose compared to other games at that time it was awesome, but I am not one to defend a game simply because of it's nostalgic value.

Wow, that's pretty harsh, dub. I never thought the controls were clunky, in fact I think they are just the opposite. A lot of the backgrounds could have used more animation, but there are a couple that look awesome (the water animation is excellent). The character sprites are small, but they look good nonetheless. The music is simple, but fits the mood of the game very well. From the first time I played the game I know that I had to have it.

I'd say the only gripe I have with it is the cheap combo system, but if you have two good players you can have fun matches without the dial-a-combos.

The backgrounds and music are pretty drab, but the control and animation are very good. Not to mention the characters are all new, not found in another game -- what a novel concept by today's standards. I'm sure ADK would have made a sequel had they stayed around for long enough. I like it better than all the World Heroes.

Sorry didn't mean to come across so harsh. I can at least say that I owned the cart though and did give it a chance for a few months. Something about it I just never liked. The first time I ever played this game in fact was just a few months back.

I have this problem with a lot of older neo titles. Its something about the sprites that just bugs me. Maybe I am just not looking past them enough. A good example would be Terry Bogards abnormally puffy sneakers in one of the Fatal Furys - I just can't get past that. The original Street Fighter II sprites kinda bug me too. I dunno, I guess I just got spoiled on all the "newer style' fighting games graphics/sprites.

But as said before, I respect it for what it is. All the games for the neo rock (at least a little)...except Riding Hero!

Yeah, you do sound spoiled on the newer fighters graphics. I still love SFII's sprites. Then again, they are bigger than Ninja Master's sprites. But at least they are better animated then SFII's.

Oh, and I agree on Riding Hero, it stunk bad. But I'd say Legend of Success Joe is worse.

I decided to give this one an honest shot, bought the cart and went to it.

I never quite caught onto it. Some games are something of an aquired tastes and I think this one is one of these. I could see some neat combos and ways to link, however it just didn't reel me in.

By today's standards, it is a bit stiff control wise and not very fluid in the animation. The cutscenes are good and I don't think the game is bad or poorly planned, I just didn't care for it.

agreed 100%... i think part of it has to do with the pallet choices too. some of the earlier games just look too bright for my taste.

i still like the games for what they are, but i just can't get as absorbed in them like the latter 2D stuff.

Yeah I like to call it Palette Abuse. Data East is #1 guilty of this on the neo with Windjammers :lolz:

Yeah all we ever play around here for fighters is Garou, KOF 98/02/03, Last Blade 2, and Samurai Shodown 3/4. Now that I am hooked on those games so much, they almost set a level of expectation.

Never played Joe but have heard from many its the absolute worst title made. I owned Riding Hero for about 24 hours (i'd sell it faster if I could have) and it was pretty damn bad.

I've not played it, but I'd sure like to know why there's an apostrophe in the title.

What exactly is it that this Ninja Master owns? Could it be the apostrophe missing from Blues Journey?

Heh, I know. It's another example of bad engrish on the part of Japanese videogame companies.

Heh, I think it has one of the best soundtracks.

Great game. Top 5 on the Neo.

The Kanji under the english title refers to a book of [ninja, mystical?] powers.
