When did SNK switch to the Snap Lock style Box?

Hi all, still kinda new at this. Was wondering when SNK moved to the snap lock style boxes? I noticed that in my collection, all of my games from Nam-1975 to Sam Sho 2 were not in snap lock boxes. My SVC Chaos is, but then I saw online someone selling a Metal Slug in a snap lock box. Just kinda curious as to when they made the move.

I think Fatal Fury 3 and KOF95 were among the first titles to have snap-lock cases, so maybe around that time.

The change definitely took place during the release of Fatal Fury 3 . SNK released the first #'s off the assembly line in the old vinyl case and then switched over to the snaplock before that run's end.
I owned at at least two copies of Fatal Fury 3 in the vinyl case during the mid 90's.

Snap locks are soooooo much nicer. Really makes them look like they're worth the insane money you may have paid at the time.

Gotta agree on the FF3 issue. Definitely the first 'Snaplock' game. However, I've never seen a 'Vinyl' FF3. And how come the Neo price guide doesn't mention it? Surely it would be a rarer and more collectible version?

It wouldn't be worth mentioning in a price guide because someone could just swap the cases. There are no distinct markings on the vinyl or snap-lock cases that could be matched to the games right?

But the size of the inserts are different. A FF3 insert from a Snaplock case would not fill the entire area of a clamshell case. In order to do that a custom insert would have to be printed.

My main concern is asking was, since I am pretty adament in getting only complete games in excellent-mint condition, I wanted to see what details there are in making sure it wasn't a conversion. I figured that if it had the correct case, with the correct insert, with a manual and baggie, then that would have been a huge amount of work to bootleg all of that stuff. I had seen a Metal Slug 1 up on eBay for a few hundred dollers, with a case, and it claimed to be a conversion...I guess that kinda made me nervous, especially when I pay so much more for AES then MVS.
