After having been a member of these forums for 4 years and never having had an actual Neo, you can bet that I was pretty damn excited. My controller and CMVS arrived early, but I decided to leave them packaged until my my games arrived (And boy what a hard wait that was, and it was only 3 days!). Finally, my first game arrived today...Neo Bomberman! When I first opened it up I was shocked at the shear size of the cartridge. Man, I read things about Neo carts being larger than normal carts, but I never thought they'd be this freaking big. They're fucking gigantic!
I then opened the box containing my CMVS. It ended up looking a LOT cleaner than I expected. After seeing so many pictures of incredibly dusty and bad looking Neo boards, I was expecting the worst. But I didn't see a speck of dust on this thing. It also looks rather durable and has a nice white plexi board underneath. It's complete with AES controller ports, S-Video/Composite, Stereo sound, UniBios 2.1, etc. (MV-1F). It also came with an included power supply, so I was relieved there (After reading a thread about how power supplies are hard to find now and that a group buy for one of them failed). The system was done by Kpj, but of course I got it from eBay and paid probably half of what it normally would have costed (Gotta love eBay
).
The controller was last. I ended up getting a Pro-Style controller since the button format looked too weird on the Old-Style stick and because it was hard to find one in good condition (I got my Pro-Style stick in mint condition, complete with box, styrofoam, etc. for $40 shipped). The stick was a bit bigger than I expected, but I absolutely love the joystick and that comforting "click" noise.
I immediately plugged everything in and, after a few minutes of wondering which way to put in the cart (I didn't want to screw anything up, so I asked in the chat
), I was enjoying my first Neo game, Neo Bomberman. I only planned on playing for half an hour or so, but before I knew it 2 hours had gone by. Man, this game is SO fun! The sound, the controls, the classic 2-D visuals are just to die for. It plays VERY well with the controller and all the sounds and explosions sound awesome; it feels like I'm playing the arcade...wait, I am! Coming from the SNES versions of Bomberman, I was especially delighted at the intensity of the explosion sounds in this game (They're a lot more "explosive" than the SNES versions, and it seems that the sound is more intense with the more bombs that explode at once).
I'm mainly playing story mode and seeing how far I can get without having to use a continue. I especially love freeing bomberman "helpers" and having them help me kill enemies (Though, sometimes their plans interfere with mine and they end up killing me
). I also like some of the new enemies, like the fish guy who hits any bomb on the floor all the way up and launches it randomly somewhere onto the stage, or those little guy in the water area that charge up and then move at insane speeds all around the stage until they slow back down. What makes it even more fun is that you can kill some of these guys and use their abilities by jumping on the monster that hatches out of the resulting egg. I haven't spend too much time playing versus mode since I only have 1 controller and computer seems kind of retarded, but the little time I spent was rather fun and having only 4 stages wasn't as limiting as I expected.
Whoo, playing the Neo is a blast and I'm only playing Neo Bomberman! I can't wait until Blazing Star, Last Blade, and Metal Slug X arrive in the next few days
