How are you?

I am a new Neo owner, and new to the site, so I figured I might as well throw out a few questions that I am not sure about. I just bought this system, which is absolutely pristine, with 2 perfect joysticks and 6 games. I have since bought two more games and a memory card. The first question I have is how do you tell if your system is US or Japanese? (I figure this is a pretty dumb question, but I am not sure) My system says MAX 330 MEGA and the games default to english, so I assume this is an American system? Secondly, all the games I have gotten (Nam, World Heroes, Sam Shodown, Fatal Fury, Football Frenzy, Baseball Stars etc.) are complete and in mint condition and fun, as well as being some of the cheapest on the system, but what one game is the must have if you could only take one, regardless of price? (I can't afford to buy them all at once, but what would be the best system showpiece to start with?) Lastly, I know from reading some of the post that there is a person (Jeff?) who is the "guru" of modding the Neo for Stereo and the Debug bios and just wanted to know from someone who has had it done if there are any negative effects on the console, either visible or in function. Not to ramble, but thanks in advance for any help and advice!

I recommend the least costly metal slug, reason being, I don't know if ya like bloody annihilation in a side scroller shoot game...that's my two cents...or 45 dollars..err..285 dollars...gah..stupid MVS and AES prices.

Im not speaking from experience cuz I just got my neo too, but from what i hear around the forums Jeff is the best to go for your S video, stereo, and Debugging needs. I think his price 100 shipped for all 3. Thats a great deal. Oh yea, what part of Va?

Go with Jeff for the mods, I have 2 buttons on the back of my machine that enables me to boot in AES or MVS mode...

The must have game is Slug 1 or Last Blade 1

Actually, Samurai Shodown 2 is the must have. Don't bother with Slug 1 unless it's on NeoCD format for the time trials and survival tests. Besides, if you want to carry a respectable collection at low cost, you should invest in the phantom-1 converter and buy some MVS carts.

Of course, since you already have SS2, if you like fighting games, I highly recommend KoF2K. It's an awesome game, and perhaps the best in the series. Second choice is Last Blade 2 (better art/atmosphere than Last Blade 1).

For shooters, go for Blazing star. It's probably too expensive for you though ($600 current average for sold BS on Ebay). It's the only shooter I would be happy with on the Neo. Some might prefer Pulstar, but Pulstar is too hard, and not that pretty. But you don't buy a neo geo for the shooters. Cheaper to buy Radiant Silvergun and a jap saturn... hmmn... not a bad idea...

Platform game - go for Metal Slug, any of them. They are all good. Metal Slug 1 is the most consistent, as you don't have those annoying aliens or mutants. MS3 is proabably the cheapest to buy at this moment.

Take it easy.

Thanks to all for the information, and to Rocco, I am from near Charlottesville, VA about 45 minutes from Richmond. The mod info was great and I will do that very soon, as soon as I get a few more games for the system. I appreciate the game information and am a fighting game fan which is why I bought the Neo. I already have a Sega Master System (for Phantasy Star 1 and Ultima IV) a Genesis (once again Phantasy Star 2,3,4 and Shining Force 1 and 2 etc., a Saturn with just about every decent game both import and US (Panzer Saga, Dragon Force, Guardian Heroes, Silvergun, Shining Force 3, etc., a Dreamcast, N64 (Sin and Punishment), and a SCHP-10000 Japanese PS2 (Devil May Cry rocks) along with the requisite Playstation (love those RPG's) and a Nomad to tote on trips. Once again, thanks for the welcome and later!
