Like probably most of us here. Before I bought my own Neo, I got by with ports.

There are some ports that I was/am satisfied with, that I never felt I needed to get them again on my Neo. Now I'm only referring to pre-PS2 ports myself. But feel free to mention any port you like.

They are:

Samurai Shodown 3 - Sega Saturn
World Heroes Perfect - Sega Saturn
Real Bout Fatal Fury - Sega Saturn
Real Bout Fatal Fury Special - Sega Saturn
Metal Slug X - PS1
Last Blade 2 - Sega Dreamcast

That's my list. What's your's? If any.

the only ones I was really "satisfied" with rather then simply "playable"

SS Tenka -PS2
Metal Slug - Saturn
Mark of the Wolves -DC
Last Blade 2 - DC
KOF 97' - Saturn

thats about it really...I thought the rest were re-created rather horribly....especially the Metal Slug 4 and 5 on PS2....3 was ok

The PCEngine version of Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury 2 and Special. :)
3d0's Samurai Shodown.

Most of the games I wanted to play on the Neo weren't ported.

The Sega Genesis versions of Fatal Fury 2 and Super Baseball 2020. Both of those were good enough that I don't feel particularly compelled to hunt down carts or CDs of them. I played both of those like mad back in the day.

For something more recent, KOFXI for PS2 is good enough that I don't feel like I need an Atomiswave.

KOF2003 and SVC Chaos for PS2, however, were not. I wouldn't trade my MVS carts for those ports, ever.

SS on 3DO was Impressive. I played the hell out of KOF 98(Dream Match) on DC and loved it (sans the backgrounds).

I'm happy/satisfied with these ports:

KoF99 Evo DC - Even tho it has 3D backs, they look fantastic IMO and gameplay is almost arcade-perfect. There are some timing issues tho, DM combos need slightly different timing than on Neo, but that's something most people won't notice anyway.

KoF2k1 DC - Very good port all around, gameplay is 99.99% spot-on. It has some resolution/overscan issues but IMO that's neglectable. I still consider it the best port the DC (probably the whole last-gen of consoles) has ever seen, that comes from someone who put more time into KoF2k1 on homecart than in most other KoFs combined...

KoF2k2 DC - Also very good, supports VGA.

Twinkle Star Sprites DC - Labour of love, excellent port with lots of extras, AST/OST, etc. Some rate it as the best version (including the Neo original) of TSS there is.

Metal Slug 3 Xbox (and probably PS2 too) - Great port, tons of extras, very good presentation, totally worth the money.

KoF NW, Tenka and KoF XI PS2 - Haven't played the AW originals yet but all the extras and new play modes alone make them worth my while. Gameplay should be spot-on, at least I haven't read about/heard of ppl complaining about arcade-imperfection.

About pre-PS2 ports, I kinda liked/enjoyed Samurai Spirits on Mega Drive... in retrospect, it's a technically flawed port that looks quite weird but I was so happy to play this game at home that I didn't care for that too much.

And yeah, Slug X on PSX is quite remarkable, at least compared to Slug 1 PSX. There still are sound and sprite problems but overall it's more than decent. Some people hate the loading between levels and before bosses, tho.

good ports:
all Atomiswave to PS2 ports so far
- Neowave, Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, Samurai Spirits 6, KOF XI

all Dreamcast ports except for US Last Blade (white blood, grr) and maybe US Garou (had subtle sound issues vs the jp copy iirc)
- KOF '98, '99, 2000, 2001, 2002? (never played the 2K2 DC port), TSS

For older ports, I haven't played much. All I can say to that is:
- Real Bout Dominated Mind on the PS1 is excellent.
- Samurai Spirts 4 on Saturn and The Last Blade on PS1 both are bad due to slowdown
- Samurai Spirits Warrior's Rage on PS1 is NOT A PORT, but it is a decent storyline game if you don't spend the whole time being ticked off that it is not a port. ;)
- Fatal Fury Wild Ambition on PS1 is in fact a port, and its playability is decent, but the game was noticably scaled down in graphics and performance to allow a Hyper game to be playable on PS1.

Also, I can't speak to Neo-to-PS2 ports because I just haven't really played any of them. :emb:
