I really cant afford anything more than my two slot MVS. I am a big sf fan and have wanted third strike and several other fighting games but cannot afford them. Im going to have to make a jamma converter for my dc, xbox or ps2. I only want to make one converter though. I have some spare parts lying around and ready to go.

The question I have is what ports are best and on what systems. I want third strike, alpha 3,guilty gear, and you get the point. My fiance cant see the amount of money going out the door for these games and neither can I. I want the best ports available so its like playing the real deal on the cab. Closest versions too the actuall jamma boards. Please help.

1.3rd strike
2.alpha 3
3.guilty gear
4.mvc2
ect.....

for third strike it going to be the ps2, the ps2 ver. is still alittle bit faster but all in all it the best port for it(side note:the xbox ver is even faster than the ps2 one, and i wont even waste my time with the dreamcast one). well from what ive heard the alpha 3 port on the ps2 is pretty much dead on.(i have the game but still havent had time to try it out).i dont know about GG or mvc2 but if you want third strike you going to go for the ps2 ver. hope i help ya out :chimp:

dreamcast is basically a Naomi with a little less RAM, so all the Naomi ports are pretty much arcade perfect.

Marvel Vs. Capcom 2
Guilty Gear X
Capcom Vs. SNK 2
Capcom Vs. SNK
Capcom Vs. SNK Pro
Soul Caliber (but has some load time I think edit:OOPs that not Naomi, I was thinking of...)
Dead or Alive 2
Powerstone (load time)
Street Fighter Alpha 3 Saikyo Dojo (which isn't like the CPS 2 version, but just like the Naomi one)

The list goes on and on, lots of shooters too.

Soul Calibur, though, is originally on Tekken 3 hardware. So the arcade one looks horrible, while the Dreamcast one looks splendid.

That one doesn't apply, IMHO ;-)

The only "perfect" one I can think of is MvsC2. Third Strike has loading and is faster, but still very good. Virtua Fighter 4 evo, while the graphics aren't as good thanks to the lower res screen, is very well done, too.

That's about the best ones I can think of, but most anything now a days is amazing. This aint the days of SNES ports, people.

I found some good info on candy cabinet city about 3rd strike, he has pictures up and explanations. http://candycabinetcity.com/?p=64
I didnt realize how easy it was to do a dreamcast to jamma conversion. I ordered what I needed from ebay last night the total project will be under $60.00 when completed. So im gonna go with that first and then make a conversion for my xbox and ps2. Does anyone have a list of all the naomi games that are ported to dc including shooters or any other games that are close by diffrent companies. Thanks for all the help.

MvC2 isn't a *perfect* port. It's really damned close though.

Capcom Fighting Jam is a perfect port.

Basically any NAOMI based fighter's perfect on Dreamcast: Capcom vs SNK, Capcom vs SNK 2, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Guilty Gear X (looks great in VGA mode by the way) etc.

For Third Strike, I'd probably say graphically it looks better on the Dreamcast, but it plays a little better on the PS2. (no issues with parrying)

Street Fighter Zero 3: Probably the PS2 version, but I haven't played it. Other than that, the Saturn version's really good.

If you want to get extremely technical, most of the DC ports *aren't* arcade perfect at top level play. There are dozens of glitches and combos that aren't in the DC version of MvC2 and there are dozens of similar mishaps in the DC but not the arcade version. The same with CvS2. CvS2 for Dreamcast does retain the Roll Cancel though.

I guess it's a good thing for me that there is practically no access to arcade games in my local area, so I really don't get to compare the ports to the real thing very often. There just isn't space in my house for a full-size cab (I tried), so I'm stuck with ports until we buy a larger house. I try to judge console ports of arcade games I've either owned or played at an arcade on their own merits, rather than comparing them to the original arcade version. No doubt I'd rather have the original, but as long as the port is fun to play and doesn't have any gameplay problems, I can enjoy it.

The power of current generation consoles (Dreamcast included) means that the overall look, feel and gameplay can be replicated pretty closely, so it's usually small differences in gameplay, graphics, etc., that show up in ports. No doubt some of those small things can be very annoying to people familiar with the arcade original, but games that are good in the arcade tend to be good on current generation consoles, if not perfect ports. The Saturn had some great ports, as well.

Of the roughly 170 console games I own, at least half are arcade ports (mainly Naomi, MVS and CPS-2). The cost and space it would take to have that many PCBs/carts/cabs would be orders of magnitude more that what the ports cost, although if I had the money and room for them, I'd still take the originals.

Thats kinda how I feel. I cant afford pcb's so im putting my dc in my big red this week or next. I feel ill be very pleased with the results. More happy then if I bought the hardware itself. I have a ton of mvs carts that are cheaper than there counterpart. I even got my cab for a decent deal.

I recently purchased an atomiswave and some other jamma pcb's but I really am not as happy because of the cash that I have to pay out for them. I work too hard to spend my money on hardware that I know is almost identical to ports and sometimes dare I say better. I plane on emulating and using ports via the big red. I was even thinking of consolizing my two-slot and just putting consoles in the big red. I have to take the more inexpensive way out in this case.It pains me to do so.

The games I really love and arent ported or emulated I plain to eventually purchase down the road after I have stability with my life and for my future wife. Im in my mid 20,s and some day hope to have a collection like mr megallo but for now I cant.
