Opinion on AES collection

Hi,
I was offered a AES (all japanese) collection - a complete set of all games, missing only a couple of titles (Matrimelee, Metal Slug, Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug 5, Pulstar, Quiz Chibi Maruko Chan, Sonic Wings 2+3, Blazing Star, Kabuki Klash) with an additional couple of MVS conversions. The games (I haven't seen all, but most) are in very good condition, in their original packaging, with manual, etc.
So - my question is this: How much is a collection as this worth? How much would be a resonable price to buy it - and to sell it?

not sure what a "good" price for all that would be. But I'd bet you'd be able to make money by selling each cart individually after purchasing this set. Its a gamble though.

If I were you I'd research (here, ebay, whatever) the going price for each cart in the set in similar condition, sum the total and take say 10%-15% or so off as your offer, since it is essentially a bulk buy.

Not at all. But this is probably a once in a lifetime kind of chance to get them. It would probably take ages to hunt the games if I start from scratch.

that collection could be worth over $10,000...who would sell it and Id assume for around that much.

I'd imagine well over 10,000 honestly. Hell of a chance and I'd sure take advantage of it if I had a kidney to sell.

Isn't that what collecting Neo is all about? Hunting for games, finding them for reasonable prices? Buy this lot and you won't play them as much as you would when you had to more for it to get em.

Maybe, but I'd like to think that the system is about the games, not the collecting.

I agree 100%. The thrill of the hunt if you will is what keep me engaged.

I enjoy all my games, but the elusiveness of some neo games makes it a bit more interesting, something roms or ports will never have - the feeling of the original.

Ditto, and despite the fact that a lot of the older hardcore collectors have or are selling up, doesn't bother me.

I adore all my carts and there is a method to the home cart versions attracting a premium.

I have an ok sized collection, but there are still a few choice carts that i am after.

In all honesty perhaps the poster of the thread already knows the answer to his question.

Right on the head. I was just gonna say that. Get this collection and you won't even appreciate these games.

I find it very sad that so many people here find the pursuit of the Neo games more rewarding than the games themselves. Doesn't say much for the games after all.

Fair point, but to me it just enhances the overall experience, pre purchase, post purchase and when im not even playing the games.

I dont think it goes against the quality of the games saying you enjoy the hunt, to me personally I just enjoy collecting things I like. Theres nothing like taking months and months to track down a game you've wanted forever, finally finding it, and hell, maybe even getting it at a fair price, and then popping it in your system and having a blast. The games are great, and that's why collectors and fans of SNK go so far to get ahold of them, the whole process is exciting, a bit expensive, but absolutely rewarding, and I'm sure many of us here love it for those exact reasons.

I didn't see anyone say it is more rewarding than the actual games. Just that it IS rewarding...... this is where this community has changed. People just assume that if someone enjoys collecting games that they hate to play them which is most often not the case.

I never said anything about it (pursuing/collecting) being more rewarding than playing.

It does say a lot about the games that I'm willing to shell out some serious cash to own it instead of just playing the roms.

Collecting and playing aren't mutually exclusive.

I own a couple of games that fetch some high prices and I still play them, insertion marks/scuffs/etc be damned.

EDIT: One more thing, most of these games are 10 years old or so and the fact that I'm enjoying myself more with these than current gen games says a lot (well, either I'm turning into an old man who is set in his ways or that the games really kick ass).

Besides, can you think of another system who's games have been ported across four generations of mainstream consoles?

All I'm saying is it shouldn't really even be a consideration if you just care about the games themselves.

If you want to play the original game, you must first aquire it, no?

It may take months to get a copy of a Neo game sometimes.

It took me close to a year to find motw, I could easily have downloaded the rom or bought the much cheaper DC version but I wanted the original game.

If the collection is located in Europe, and Kizuna/SSK4 is in the deal - you might wanna look closely at this one.

If the only titles missing are the ones you listed....
