New Super Mario Bros. is the best thing to hit handheld systems since Tetris for the original gameboy. Anyone agree/disagree?

I disagree. Decent sequel to SMB3, except for the fact SMW brought a ton of improvements over SMB3. This is too short, too easy, and too boring really

The game is fun, hands down.

A little short, perhaps a little easy.

But finding the alternate paths and collecting the gold coins adds to the replayability of this title.

Still I agree that it is not as good as Super Mario World or Super Mario Bros 3. However, that does not by any means, equate to New Super Mario Bros being a bad game.

It's fun.

If you want a better platformer then wait for Yoshi's Island 2 to come out for the ds...

EDIT: Also, i dont know why I posted in this thread as i realized there are probably like 10 Threads about this game already.

Yeah and probably will be about 10 more of them.

Something i forgot to mention is exactly what you said. In no way is New Super Mario Bros a bad game. It's actualy one of the DS better games yet it's no where near as being the best mario bros game or the best game avalible.

I played this for a bit on my friend's DS, and it definently "feels" a lot different. Mario's run now has him accelerate to get to a top speed, that's for sure. The momentum of the previous games is alot less realistic in comparison to this game's... it feels as if somebody took Mario 64, shifted the camera to 2d only, and then slapped on some levels before calling it a day and presenting the game.

Not exactly the game I was expecting, but not entirely bad either. I guess I'll just wait for Rockman ZX/CV: PoR to get my fix of platforming goodness, as both of those games look (and hopefully will play) ridiculously awesome.

I agree completely. For those claming that the game is too short, by the time you unlock and beat everything, you'll at least have 6-8 hours wrapped up in the game. Now when most people read that, you'll probably think it is to short, but this is SMB, not FF7.

The multiplayer games are fun too, they basically packaged NSMB and Mario Party (which don't get me wrong, I'm not a mario party fan, but its still nice for them to include it) into one title and that's not mentioning the versus mode. You definitely are getting what you pay for with this game and then some.

I think it would have been tough to top SMB3 and SMW. Those 2 games basically brought the craziness of sandbox exploration to SMB, and there was no turning back after that. How can you top all those cool toys, those levels that were just packed to the brim with secret coin rooms in the sky, down the pit of quicksands, or the secret treasure chest on levels that had the famous white blocks? New Super Mario Bros. is a fine game in my book, a lot of fun, more like SMB 2.5 (Japanese version, not the Doki Doki Panic hack) and a title to bridge the gap, 'cos 2D Super Mario has been away for a long time.

Screw the haters. :emb:

I just got the game so I didn't play enough to get a real opinion but my first impressions are more than positive. It's just damn good. SMW good? I don't care and you shouldn't too.
Somehow, the controls feel different (more realistic in a way) and I'm not confortable with the DS button layout (I'd rather play the game on a GBA SP) but except those points it's all good.

I can't jump into conclusion with the lifetime on the game but getting all the star coins is not that easy, even in the first world.

5 star game for me :buttrock:

If you haven't tried the multiplayer yet, do it now. It is awesome, MUCH better than the boring Mario 64 DS one. Seriously, I've played the multiplayer more than the single player.
