I got bored this evening and decided to consolize one of my five CPS2 mother boards. The project is comming along quite well so far. The only thing left is to add controller ports. I haven't quite decided if I want to put neo-geo controller ports or do custom joysticks. I'm leaning towards custom sticks because of the 6 button layout. The power connector and the video encoder are still outside of the shell because I'm saving the finishing work for last. Here's what I've got so far:

Feel free to post suggestions for me!

Cheers,
Bill

Currently I'm using a J-Rok S-Video. I'm going to try a DIY NeoBitz however because I solder S-Video and Composite leads easier.

Nice job so far dude.

I would say use sperating mountable jacks on the unit, I always find it looks ugly when you mount the board with the jacks stuck on....unless you have better ideas there :D

Are you putting some controller ports on?

That's freakin' awesome.

The only problem I have is that you're soldering right to the board... it might be easier with a spare jamma harness and tapping those wires for everything you'd need. But hey, you're doing fine as it is. :buttrock:

If I were to go the jamma harness route I would be building a supergun, not colsolizing the motherboard. The nice thing is, however, when I'm done you will still be able to use the motherboard's jamma connector in a cabinet.

I'm finishing my consolized cps1 (i'll post pictures in a few days), for the joystick port, i've used a neogeo type pinout, with the unused and D button pins for the kick harness. For instance, on my sf2 board, i can use my home made joystick with the 6 working buttons, or a standard neogeo controller, with the 3 punches, and the strong kick on the D button.

I can't check the pics right now cuz I'm on Dilaup.

Regarding the Controller ports:

I'd roll with a DB-15 wired as following.

1 Common (GND)
2 KICK 1
3 Select/COIN
4 Button 4
5 Button 2
6 Right
7 Down
8 +5v
9 Kick 2
10 Kick 3
11 Start
12 C Button
13 A Button
14 Left
15 Up

This way you can use a Neo Geo pad/stick on 1-4 button games (Cyberbots uses the Neo Geo Pinout). For Fighters, you can use a Custom Joystick.

Good call on the pinouts. I think I'm going to do that. I am going to attempt to wire the kick harness internally to the DB15 so there is no need for extra connectors.

If you use the pinout like on mine you'll find that if you somehow have to play SF2 with an AES stick, you'll get an acceptable LP MP HP HK layout instead of LP MP HP MK, just a thought.

So did you build your consolized CPS2 or did someone else?

I think he got it from MKL pre-made, so hardly comparing like for like with you.
