I'm just taking a wild guess, but i don't think it is more than $10-$15 worth of parts. You of course need to have an eprom programmer, and access to bootleg "bread" boards.

Your thread is confusing.

The title reads-
"What is the real value of a bootleg?"

Opening question reads-
"How high are the costs of making a bootleg?"

Which is it?

I'd say $4-8 if the parts are new. Retail for a boot shouldnt be more than $20 to me. Since they are boots.

in a land like hong kong the price can't be higher like 2-4 $ to produce a bootleg

It's safe to assume that the per unit cost of producing a bootleg would be cheap. However, as billd420 noted, one would be required to invest in potentially expensive "capital goods" prior to having the ability to produce said carts.

Considering that you have the materials to make them. eproms don't really cost that much. So about 10-20 of eproms them per cart. Depending on whether you are recycling old snk carts or making new ones would affect the price. It's cheaper just to now to buy really old and numerous mvs carts and use them to build harder to find or newer games since most games use the same hardware anyway. Even then though $10 per used cart plus at least another $10 for eproms such. So abot my guess is that they cost at least $20 per bootleg cart. This doesn't even take into consideration labor costs.

But $20 vs $100s for a new kit back in the day.
