taken from cps2 shock
http://cps2shock.retrogames.com/techinfo.html

"Grey and Orange game boards require the main 'A' board of matching color to work. Green and Blue boards are totally interchangeable meaning Green game boards will work on a Blue 'A' board and visa versa. A Yellow case shows a game is the rent version. These were made to fit 'A' boards as required and were used to entice operators to buy the game"

im probably buying a GREEN Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo.
I have blue motherboards, and according to cps2 shock, the green should fit on.. has anyone tested this?
does anyone know if this green board is going to be in japanese (as i know the colour of board only donates the country of release and not always the language)

Green's almost definitely a JP SSF2T. My US one is blue. From what I've seen, green B boards and blue A boards have been used together many times in the past and that combo works fine. I don't own any green B boards myself, though.

Just to be anal, the blue-US boards are SSF2T and the japan-Green boards are SSF2X.

The green board you want to buy will most deffinetly fit on a US OR Jap. "A" board, they're completly interchangable. I have a green vampire savior board on a US "A" board right now.

you need to have something like this: http://kaele.com/~kashima/games/cps2img/img11.jpg

not two colored boards. The colored boards (or the top half) is the "B" board, the bottom half is the "A", just to make sure.

Enjoy your NO FREEPLAY option. That's the only downer on that board.

Just get it phoenixed, fuck if you're serious about cps2, you will want to get rid of the batteries anyway, even if you swap them, they can leak later on, and generally not having to remember when to change all your b boards every 3-4 years is better than messing around inside a delicate pcb with a soldering iron.

I don't get why everyone is so faggy about blue and green boards. I have a Japanese phoenixed and it has freeplay thanks to the US option. Both versions are the same except for name changes and damage related to gief's jumping dizzy from up+rh iirc (its toned down on US so its not an automatic dizzy).

I swaer, collectors are such bitches sometimes :)

I've got a US (blue) A board I'm willing to let go of. PM me if interested.

how much does a cps2 motherboard usually run?
$50 at the most... and you probably shouldn't buy one alone. Most arcades had an A board for every B board to run a lot of CPS2 games on different cabs. Now the boards are going to the gamers/collectors, who only want 1 A board for a load of B boards, and the A boards are extraneous. The resellers don't want to get stuck with the extra A boards, so many of the auctions are B board with A included.

Look up CPS2 on E-bay... at the moment MVC, COTA, XVSF, and VS are all being sold as a combo rather than B board alone.

Edit:
Sorry, lime, your post wasn't up a minute ago. I'm sure a lone A board is fine if the price is right. :emb:

The speeds are different yet the same on these boards too...

US Speed 3 = Japan Speed 4(me thinks)

Green and Blue are interchangable

From what ive seen Green is always in Jap.
Grey (Asian) is always in English.
Blue... obviously English.

Correct me if im wrong ;)

As someone else pointed out... the jap version is SSF2X.

Japan speed is speed 3 default.

I think it's just that US players play at a faster speed.

Turbo 3 JP = Turbo 2 US
