I pm'd a few of you to prevent from opening up a new thread for yet another translation request but perhaps this is the best way to seek out the help. Im working on doing a true to form Samurai Shodown 2 insert based off of the JAP aes insert.
Here's my work in progress:

Once I get the text translated, I'll be able to get a better feel for the final layout on the back.

Here is a link to the JPG file which is a lot larger than this; should be big enough to read what I need translated. (just select to open it or save it to harddisk)
thanks

Chris

My friend Layne is actually on his way over for a NEOJAM! (who knows Japanese quite well, has studied for years and traveled there). He did all the translations for the KOF 98 insert I did before...I will see what he can do for you guys.

That would be cool. As soon as I get back (currently out of town), I'll upload the larger image.

No problem. I showed the lo-res to Layne last night, he says it might take him a couple days to do because of the "old style" writing but he is totally up for it. I gave him the flyers for BB's translation last night too, so he is going to start on that one this weekend.

I keep telling him to come hang out on the forums but he is scared or something? haha

haha! No need to be scared.
I found a pretty large scan of the SS2 jap insert, perhaps this will help.

If I get some free time this weekend I can give it a crack (if someone else doesn't beat me to it).

Big Bear, I'll take a look at yours too.

NOW, WHERE IS THE SERIOUS VICTORY?!

Man, that was tough. Lots of really long compound sentences and ye olde fashioned Japanese made for a bitch of a translation. I wouldn't have been able to do it without the help of Darth Wife. Alas, her limited grasp of English plus my craptacular Japanese skillz made for lots of cranky bickering. Anyhow, we got it done.

I tried to keep things as literal as possible. Japanese has lots of concepts that are so different from English that there's no one correct way to translate them, so I tried to stick to the closest original meaning of the word. This makes the English translation sound very awkward, but it works well if you wanna go for a corny SNK Engrish type insert.

If you want a more serious insert you might want to try and rephrase everything yourself. Bear in mind that the original insert uses old Japanese to try and sound old-fashioned, so using old-fashioned English might be another approach that you want to take.

1) WHITE LETTERS ON GOLD BG
Cut! Kick! Get angry! The Japanese samurai big action drama is again appearing.

2) BIG GOLD AND BLACK TEXT
Now, where is the serious victory?!

3) LONG PARAGRAPH
The thundering name of those extreme katana battles from fighting history answer your expectations with an extreme rebirth. The sharpness of “catching weapons in the palm of your hand” type samurai actions has increased more and more, and the curtain rises on the new anger system’s “even more deadly than before” big action drama. Two people can play at once.

4) RED BULLET POINTS
-Super splendid! 15 swordsmen line up.
-Super secret! Weapon destroying special attacks.
-Super evolution! Attack, defend, taunt.
-Super varied! Set-able options

5) YELLOW ON RED TEXT
New faces: four people appear!!

Yo, BB, the wife refuses to do anymore translation for the day, so I'll try and get to yours later on this week.

I might make a poll of this to see if I should just stick to the literal translation or go for a rephrased version. Either way, the work is done and a big thank-you to you and Darth Wife!

That's pretty impressive translation. I bow to your skill. I would never have figured out that middle bit.
