4 slot vs 6 slot

I just got a "rebuilt" 6 slot board with UNI BIOS. The sound works better on some games (left speaker was very quiet on 4 slot w/Bomberman), and the graphics are better too (brighter colors, and no more horizontal banding parallel with vertical character movement in Blue's Journey).

Is this due to a better quality manufacturing? Newer techology? The UNI BIOS? Better harness contact? Cleaner slots?

I agree, your 6-slot has better contact. However, I heard that the 6-slot is the most unreliable of all MVS boards.

thanks

The guy who rebuilt it said he recapped the sound amp.

Probably better contact on the visuals.

Yeah, I heard they are more unreliable, but I got tired of always having the same 4 "favorite" household games in the machine. Always got complaints when I swapped one out. Now there are 2 more choices to play. So far no less reliable. The more contacts and circuits in general though, the more likely something will go wrong.

Gotta pickup my super gun from D-Lite sometime so I can cycle through my collection easier. I got another 6 slot I'm trying to fix (damaged in shipping only 5 slots work). Not sure what to do with the 4 slot...maybe a Candy cab, but those are harder to find. Maybe someday I'll make/get a custom mini-cab.

not really, you may have more chance of a faulty slot because there are more of them. Overall they would be on a par imho.

Do you know whats wrong with your slot in your 6 slot? I just got a 4 slot for cheap because the guy said there were only 3 working slots. All I had to do was squeeze the slot with my thumb and index finger and it solved the problem. I took the cover off so that I could get at it real good. I could here the contacts touching each other as I pinched the slot. When I set the board back up I put art of fighting in and it loaded up perfectly on the slot. I hope your problem is as easy to fix as mine was.

nope

Only that the box it shipped in was too small and the board got a little pressure on one corner

answer

Have you tried swapping the wires/sides to make sure you don't have a bad speaker?

mainman is the guy to ask, he's the one who "recapped" the amp on my board

Yeah I was the one who rebuilt and sold bconner the 6 slot he is referring to. The electrolytic caps in these boards tend to fail over time which in terms affect the audio. Simply recapping the affect components tends to solve the problem in my experience.

Mainman fixed the broken 6 slot board

I really can't say enough good about this guy.

He takes broken boards and fixes them.

He repaired a 6 slot board that was beyond hope.
He can fix boards with bad traces.
Truely a magician!

Extremely fair prices. Great communication etc...

We are very lucky to have him as a member.

Do not hesitate to do business with him.

well...

At a minimum you were able to fix a board that another prestigous member was not. I had been told it probabaly was not fixable.
